two troll posts tonight! i’ve not been on MN that long and have only seen a couple. i was wondering how you can tell if a mumsnetter is a troll, if there are any giveaways? as well as any stories that stick in your head?

bored in the bath and could do with a laugh

@Lelophants i believed both of those teen pregnancy threads Blush i'm not convinced the poor girl was a troll, i had pmed her and she seemed legit.. having said that i think if you told me gullible was written on the ceiling i'd look up to check Grin

Being told to settle in it’s going to be a long one usually makes me scroll on to the next thread

I see that some people don’t really mind troll threads as long as they are entertaining, however I really dislike them as I don’t like to see other people’s goodwill wasted on them

Gingerkittykat · 10/08/2020 01:43

I forgot the tory party plants benefits trolls. Poster will write about someone on benefits, knows all the details of their income and outgoings, last one I saw was someone who claimed their single parent sister spent all their benefit money on designer make up and holidays whilst living with their parents supported her.

This is guaranteed to spark a thread which runs for hundreds of posts with loads of vitriol towards benefit claimants who all seem to live in the lap of luxury.

blurpityblurp · 10/08/2020 02:27

The only ones I don’t mind are the spooky ones. I regard those more like Reddit’s NoSleep.

Musicinmyears45 · 10/08/2020 08:53

On the topic of trolls does anybody remember the unibrow troll??
She'd post every now and again under different names about her daughter wanting to grow a unibrow. At one point she said she was the daughter and it was a reverse Confused

daisychain1620 · 10/08/2020 09:43

Reading all this I realise just how naive I am, I didn't think that trolls posted much on site such as this. I mean what do they get out if anonymously pretending their daughter wants to grow a unibrow? It's quite sad actually.

Musicinmyears45 · 10/08/2020 10:05

Some of them are so bizarre I don't even know if they are trolls!! Shock

DDemelza · 10/08/2020 10:28

There are quite a few boards set up around the internet to discuss trolls on Mumsnet, since MN (fairly understandably) discourage it here.

1984andout · 10/08/2020 13:31

Oh and also look at the timing of posts. I know MN is not just used in the UK but anything to do with girls periods and gym pants at 3am is usually hairy handed.

daisychain1620 · 10/08/2020 18:25

@1984andout 😂😂

DianaT1969 · 10/08/2020 18:57

I'd rather have an entertaining troll thread than the 975 threads cluttering up my feed of the same individuals moaning about masks.

DDemelza · 10/08/2020 19:37

I would make a distinction between troll threads and entertaining joke threads, such as HullyGully used to post.

I agree, though, about the covid19 bolleaux.

@JaneJeffer

Just go on Reddit.
So this is allowed to stand yet my post about the exact same thing was hidden before it even made the board then deleted!! What a load of shit.

Watch out for threads about neighbours/puddles and alphabets.

OhYeahYouSuck · 10/08/2020 23:26

OP, well known troll topics:
Poo
Wee
Periods
Shoes
Mentioning of twins
Real time dramatic updates
Extremely unlikely situations
A lot of escalation of a situation
If they invite you to share in their bodily fluid embarrassment, it's more likely to be a troll and you will be providing wank fodder.

I reckon half the stuff on some of these boards are crap.

I'm speshul Grin
Seriously though I've never heard of a post being deleted before it was posted!!

@OhYeahYouSuck
Did you name the subreddit? That would have been why your post was hidden.
