I was loosing my shit at some spiders in my house the other day because I let them live her RENT FREE and they aren’t doing their job of killing the flies! Lazy bastards

FloydWasACat · 08/08/2020 21:24

Somewhere years ago on MN, I read on here about hanging a clear plastic (like a sandwich) bag, fill with some water and penny coins - I swear it works!

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/08/2020 21:37

Why does there need to be so many KINDS of fly..

We currently have:

Fly silently round the centre of the room in a roughly square pattern.
Buzz in your ear and bite you but not suck blood
Actual buzzy flies that bash against the windows
Stink bugs that buzz very loudly causing braindead dogs to forget that stink bugs taste nasty
Actual mosquitos.

Before someone tells me to use Avon Skin So Soft... I did that last night, went to bed bite free..

I woke up with EIGHT FUCKING BITES ON ME.

Skin So Soft is now considered a delicious condiment for human flesh.

im5050 · 08/08/2020 21:38

I have a ceiling fan
It blows them all away 😂😂😂

Livelovebehappy · 08/08/2020 22:15

Not being judgmental, but I can honestly say I’ve never had a kitchen full of flies. Maybe the odd one, but imo if someone has a kitchen full of them, there are some serious cleaning issues. Unless you live on a farm.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 08/08/2020 22:24

Clear dettol multi surface cleaner spray. Kills the little b@#%%s without choking you as well.

niceupthedance · 08/08/2020 22:26

FLLLIIIIEEEESSS!! Fucking flies!!

BettyOBarley · 08/08/2020 22:28

Does anyone else have these teeny tiny little black flies all over the place at the moment? Only a millimetre or two but there are tonnes of them in the garden landing all over us and our hair, don't know what they are but they're driving us crazy!
Have also heard the coins in a bag works. Something to do with the light shining off them or something.

FrolickingFannyBoots · 08/08/2020 22:32

Flies! Fuckers! I have cats and if they don’t eat all the cat food straight away, I have to bin the rest immediately as the flies will be there in 30 secs stomping their vomit all over the meat. Cat food utterly stinks even more in hot weather anyway so it’s just disgusting all round really. God I HATE them. I go to bed at night and suddenly a gazillion mozzies are in my face. I hate these arseholes even more. We live near a stream the runs close to my house and through to the large local duck pond so I’m just fighting these bastards all through July and August. I have Skeeter Syndrome ( allergy to mosquito saliva) so if I get bitten, I have a fortnight of blisters, itchy red skin and swelling. Utter evil shits. We bought a thing to catch the flies you hang up in the kitchen but it didn’t work. Back to rolled up newspaper. If anyone has any good suggestions of devices that actually kill these pointless, nasty, fugly, rank bastards.

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 08/08/2020 22:35

I’m lying in my bed reading this with a fucking fly buzzing round the screen,

DEATH to all flies!

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 08/08/2020 22:43

@BettyOBarley they're probably thrips or thunderflies. I live near fields used for crops and we seem to get loads when they harvest the wheat.

cochineal7 · 08/08/2020 22:54

Fruit flies: finally found something that works. Fill quarter of a cup with some leftover wine or vinegar diluted with water - crucial part is to then add a drop of dishwashing liquid as it breaks the tension on the liquid and they sink right in. Very satisfying.

Floralnomad · 08/08/2020 22:59

We have roller midge screens fitted to all of our windows , it’s bliss no flies , no gnats , no over anxious daughter creating Merry hell over a wasp !

MrsSnitchnose · 08/08/2020 23:04

I see your fucking flies and raise you flying bastard ants! And of course I can't spray the buggers or put ant powder down because I have cats in the house. Will try the sandwich bag thing but if any natural remedy ideas gratefully received (for the crawling cousins)

Twirlytwoo · 08/08/2020 23:21

@FrolickingFannyBoots I also have skeeter syndrome and get cellulitis from mozzie bites so I have to deal with a swollen arm/leg/face if I get bitten Angry I am forever chasing flies out of the house, the buzzing fills me with rage! Need to get those big screens, we get wasps and DH runs out of the room screaming when he sees those so I end up having to swat those bloody things out of the house too!

CCSS15 · 08/08/2020 23:22

Johnsons flea spray - no good for flies unless they land on it but great for anything more crawly. Get animals and humans out the house then spray around outside of room, door, windows, leave 30 mins then air House out. Should kill most things for a few months

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 08/08/2020 23:27

Uggghhhh grim things. I've found this thread quite reassuring. I thought it was just me. I keep cleaning & can't get rid of them. ant spray is doing a great job but then I get dead flies everywhere

LEELULUMPKIN · 08/08/2020 23:31

We too have the "bat of doom"......

amazon.co.uk/Sourcing4U-Executioner-Mosquito-Swatter-Zapper/dp/B003TT3GDC/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-nc-drs1_0?crid=36P7PX01MSLKA&cv_ct_cx=executioner%2Bfly%2Bswatter%2Bpro&dchild=1&keywords=executioner%2Bfly%2Bswatter%2Bpro&pd_rd_i=B003TT3GDC&pd_rd_r=febf6c9f-4a1c-4cea-ac53-af82f9f5be5d&pd_rd_w=0LF32&pd_rd_wg=yWCTl&pf_rd_p=c75e5dd5-d952-42be-a062-5e7c16a27c59&pf_rd_r=YNJDHBXTVW3EG00FRGNP&qid=1596628612&sprefix=executioner%2Bfly%2Bs%2Caps%2C144&sr=1-1-99b08bab-4e12-4b46-a656-c375985ac043&th=1]]

And I can honestly say it's one of the best things we have ever bought!

It's such a satisfying electrical crack when you get the buggers as well as the smell of singed insect!

You can get cheapo versions from the ££££ shop but they are nowhere near as effective as "The Executioner Pro" and far less harmful without the nasty ingredients to be found in a can of raid, which can cause a prolonged demise and seems crueller than this baby.

The only "con" against them IMO opinion is that everyone will want a go!

AlwaysLatte · 08/08/2020 23:33

Keep the windows open, they'll soon fly out, and empty the kitchen bin every day in this weather.

Pjsandbaileys · 08/08/2020 23:55

My dog obsessively eats them, but extreme to get a dog to cure a fly problems do she creates more problems than she solves lol

PeppersYellow · 08/08/2020 23:57

Just bought some zero in 60 days citronella diffusers from amazon. 6pack worked out cheaper. Tried pots of basil on window sill as read they don't like basil but don't think that's worked! Magnetic curtains fell down and then ripped so had to throw them away. If this citronella doesn't work then might resort to nets or the buzz liquid thing. Driving me nuts they is!!!!

BornOnThe4thJuly · 09/08/2020 00:00

@KatherineOfGaunt

We have a magnetic door screen. Velcroes round the door with the two halves closing with magnets. We have the back door open all day every day and very, very few flies! (They usually get in if the front door is open.)

]]

This is what we’ve been using this Summer and I can count on one hand how many flies we’ve had in the kitchen as a result. I’ve tried various things in the past and non worked anywhere near as well as this.
1Morewineplease · 09/08/2020 00:03

@Ohffs66

I was sat on my sofa this morning with a tea towel in one hand and a can of fly spray in the other, poised like a ninja. I think I'm actually starting to scare DH I'm so furious at the little fuckers.

Seeingadistance · 09/08/2020 00:04

I have a cat who loves to catch and eat buzzy flies.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 09/08/2020 00:05

@AlwaysLatte

Keep the windows open, they'll soon fly out, and empty the kitchen bin every day in this weather.
This is so not true! They can find their way in the house through the tiniest crack but open a door or window to let them out and they can never find their way to outside, drives me insane.
