I have a record player with some vinyls that I told her she can use but i'd like some recommendations as for what I could show her. My minds a bit blank atm Blush

I'm only posting to agree with everyone and add Al Stewart Year of the Cat. Grin And to Spotify some of the suggestions I'd forgotten about.

mrshoho · 08/08/2020 12:59

Anything by Thin Lizzy but especially Whisky in the jar.

mrsBtheparker · 08/08/2020 13:03

Francoise Hardy, (can't do cedillas) she may have been more 60s/70s though. She had such an amazing voice.

DCIHoops · 08/08/2020 13:06

Musicinmyears45 · 08/08/2020 13:10

What would you all say would appeal to a young girl? She normally listens to Ariena Grande, Billie Ellish etc. Grin

DCIHoops · 08/08/2020 13:15

Drift Away - (I love the Rolling Stones unreleased cover of it)

WildRosie · 08/08/2020 13:16

There were several female singers in the 60s and 70s. I've already mentioned Marianne Faithfull and Jackie DeShannon but your DD might like Debbie Harry, Gladys Knight, Kate Bush, Chrissie Hynde and Olivia Newton-John. Lulu's version of The Man Who Sold The World is a great 70s song.

Winniewonka · 08/08/2020 13:28

My favourites from the 60s/70s

California dreamin' - Mamas & Papas
Move on up - Curtis Mayfield
Bus Stop - The Hollies
Paint it black - Rolling Stones
Band of Gold - Freda Payne
Too busy thinking bout my baby - Marvin Gaye
Dreams , Green Manalishi - Fleetwood Mac
All along the watchtower - Jimi Hendrix

exiledfromcornwall · 08/08/2020 13:30

Wichita Lineman, Glen Campbell, a beautiful song.
Won't Get Fooled Again. The Who.
LA Woman. The Doors.
Nights In White Satin. Moody Blues. Also the lesser known Question, cos it brings back happy childhood memories.
Voodoo Chile. Jimi Hendrix.
MacArthur Park. Richard Harris.
Classical Gas. Mason Williams.

serenada · 08/08/2020 14:16

Oh yes, Blondie - so good

CrepuscularCritter · 08/08/2020 14:55

Blondie for sure...maybe start with Parallel Lines. Carole King's Tapestry, Judie Tsuke's Sportscar. (I may be trampling on some early 80s here too. )

Steely Dan: Pretzel Logic and Can't Buy A Thrill. The Doobie Brothers - Long Train Running, Listen To The Music. Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run and Darkness on the Edge of Town. Boz Scaggs - Lido Shuffle, What Can I Say, America - Ventura Highway, The Eagles + Joe Walsh. James Taylor for full singer songwriter mode. I think someone already mentioned Al Stewart and The Year Of The Cat. Early Hall and Oates with Sara Smile and She's Gone.

Then there's glam. Bowie in the Diamond Dogs era, T Rex...a bit of the Stooges and Search and Destroy.

That should all take a year or so... Wink
