To consider therapy/counseling for my son?

A couple of weeks before lockdown, myself, DP and DS (9) moved in with my parents.

I say parents, its my DMum and DStepdad. DStepdad is a postie. A couple of weeks ago he was badly attacked by a dog as he delivered a parcel and some of his wounds required surgery. Before surgery, his arms and hands were wrapped up but you could see swelling and blood soaked pads under.

DStepdad is recovering well but still off work and has been put forward for counselling by his manager.

Thing is, DS has always been nervous of dogs. And yesterday he went for a walk in the woods when someone walking 2 dogs of the same breed that attacked his grandad went by and my son freaked out really bad. Obviously, he's seen the injuries his grandad sustained, he's seen him come home from hospital a few times and his wariness of dogs has turned to a genuine fear that I worry will affect him more so as he grows older.

AIBU for considering therapy for DS even though he wasn't the person attacked by the dog?

Extra info so I don't need to explain. We moved in because we are ready to buy a house and only intended on staying here 4/5 months. Obviously lockdown has pushed us back a few months.

The breed of the dog is not important to this story but i will say it is not a pitbull/staffy type dog so please don't generalise about 'dangerous breeds'.
