To tell you about my mini heart attack last night?

Ok so it's not an actual heart attack, but DP and I were in bed last night, just gone up. Suddenly we heard this weird barking noise from downstairs, sounded like a scratching sound. DP went to check and couldn't see anything, our 2 year old was fast asleep, as was our cat. Yet every time we settled back in bed to sleep came this weird sound. I was utterly convinced it was a mouse or a rat and I was terrified! So DP volunteers to sleep downstairs to see if he can find out what the noise is. 5 minutes later he comes running up to tell me a hedgehog had come out from behind the couch and was now nestled in in cupboard under the stairs :) I've never been so relieved ! But those sounds nearly gave me a heart attack! I'm petrified of mice and rats, but our little prickly friend was very cute. We fed and watered him and set him back outside in the garden, after naming him Harry (Harry Potter - cupboard under the stairs) :)

I need to borrow your hedgehog, I have had four slugs in my kitchen this week.

labazsisgoingmad · 08/08/2020 13:16

hedgehogs have their own fleas which dont live on anything else do that about defleaing cats dogs etc is an old wives tale

TalkingtotheCat · 08/08/2020 13:55

Ah that’s good news about the fleas. The cat has regular flea treatments anyway since she loves going outdoors (to sit on the gate and spy on the neighbours). Went and checked out our garden shed but couldn’t find any hedgehog evidence... although DP has upset me a bit as after I went to sleep he heard what sounded like cats fighting outside but after researching it sounded like the hedgehog screaming ☹️ I’m quite worried about little Harry😔 hope he comes back tonight, I’ll leave some food and water out for him and hope he is okay 🤞🤞

Oh no, I hope he is ok and does come back. Do let us know.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 08/08/2020 22:15

Ahhh! We had one in our garden a couple of nights last week. They make so much noise, I never knew! Our cat has never seen a hedgehog before and she had a WTF expression when she saw it.

@TalkingtotheCat

They are three different ones, Brian Bolt (he would run really fast), Princess - I forget what, and speckled Jim.

There was one big hog that used to eat and a little one would run and head butt it to try to get it to move.

@LakieLady we call it 'snuffling', my carer tried to stroke one (Drucilla - apparently 'Spike' is too obvious a name) and she made a 'chuff chuff' noise, but carried on eating.

The cat just ignores them
