AIBU to worry about zoom interview

I've got a zoom interview later and I'm worried as previously I've done the traditional go to place interview. What are you dos and don't?
I've cleared a space with my bookcase behind me. Everyone will be out of the house. I'll be wearing office appropiate clothes.
Thanks

That's it really. Test your microphone and camera and if possible connect the the internet via a wire rather than WiFi but not the end of the world if not. Pop a light on in the room you're in and turn off any landline phones.

On the plus side, you can have notes pinned up behind the screen so when asked questions you can gaze up 'thinking' and read your prompts. Smile

As someone who has just been involved in a recruitment round at work, and did close to 20 interviews, here are my tips: check the audio and video quality beforehand if you can; think about outside noise (for example lawn mowers) and perhaps close doors and windows (I appreciate how hot it is, though). What are the light levels like, can you be seen clearly? Glass of water to hand, notes ready. Try and address the webcam, rather than look at the screen, so it feels as though you're engaging directly with the panel. The interview may go quicker than a 'normal' one as there is less small talk (how did you find the journey here? were the directions okay?). Ultimately, people realise how weird and unfamiliar it is to do virtual interviews, so all of this is taken into account, it's weird for the panellists too. Good luck!

Hope it goes well!

Ooh - if your internet is not working super fast, but you think it should be, pause things like onedrive and google drive if you have them - the syncing in the background can slow things right down

Be careful about where the window is. If it’s to your side or directly behind, it can make your face very dark.

If there is a chance you’ll need to share your screen, check your computer desktop has nothing embarrassing/confidential visible. And is tidy.

I'm glad you've asked this OP. I have one next week and am more nervous about it being a video interview than the actual interview/questions.

Just checked the bookcase, I've hidden the tattoo books with books about my career just in case, thanks for all the tips so far.

Making sure your webcam is at eye level or above, not below looking up at you, gives a much more flattering face shot! You can test this out before. Put your laptop on a pile of books.

Good idea about lifting my laptop, I've used some of the kids books (dusty from never being read!)

OK, interview over, I couldn't get a feel of how it went and it's completely different experience to a face to face.
Good luck to anyone else
