Kids getting up early to play when camping

Morning all. Currently writing this from my camping chair, me and DH have come away with the kids for the weekend.

Woke up today at about 6:30 because in all fairness to the kids, the tent is already bloody hot. But I’m really aware of the fact that not everybody on the whole bloody campsite also wants to be woken up at that hour. Kids wanted to be up running about and shouting as soon as they’re awake but I said none of that until at least 8am.

DH thinks I’m BU and that 7am is perfectly reasonable when it’s so hot and that being woken up by other people is just a normal part of camping. He’s taken the kids off to get some bits from breakfast to pass the time because the campsite was still completely silent and I said there’s no way we can all be noisy yet.

I’ve never been camping before so AIBU? DH has made me feel like a big meany Grin What is an acceptable time to let them loose?!

I have (not so) fond memories of DH taking a wailing teething 5 month old DS in a sling for a walk in the forest at 5am many years ago.
Poor chap, it was his birthday as well but we had 3 other DC still trying to sleep.

8am is the earliest for ‘loud’ noises. If your children are going to be noisy you take them for a walk/bribe them/entertain until a decent time.

Good luck OP Brew

@LakieLady

No euphemism, it's just no kids (over 12's are usually accepted) very peaceful in the mornings but people tend to sit around in the evenings later, the one I like has a communal fire pit so late night singing is common, however walking the dog at 9 I'm the only one up

Lots of very demanding campers on here. OP check the quiet hours did your campsite. For me, anytime from 7 is fair game.

SnackSizeRaisin · 07/08/2020 10:59

Running or shouting around tents in which other people are sleeping is pretty inconsiderate at any time. Running and shouting in an adjacent field or play area is fine from 8 am IMO. Quieter noise such as talking, in or close to your own tent, is fine from 7am.
In the evening it should be quiet after 11. People who play music on campsites, or bring dogs that bark, are the most antisocial of all.

Have you a tarp or blanket or something you can rig to throw shade on the sleeping area first thing in the morning?

Coffeeandbeans · 07/08/2020 11:09

8am is fine. Any earlier and I would complain. Same as 11pm is late enough for noise too.

My two children used to go camping with their Dad when youngies, and they all got up at about 6.or 7 am, had a bit of a wash, and something to eat, then went off for walks along a river, or in the woods etc.. My husband used to say it was the best time of the day to see wildlife etc.

It seems a bit odd to take tech gadgets on a camping holiday, as camping is supposed to be a getaway from home, and be enjoying nature things.

''Hell is O.P.K''

Our dad used to say this {Hell is other people's kids} so we were expected to be quiet so as not to be an irritation to others camping nearby.

8.a.m ..The campsites we used to use { Mainland Europe} often had a designated kid's play area.

One camp site had a massive rotating wooden drum , like a hamster wheel that made a lot of nouse when 10 children were powering it...but such, such fun.

We are caravanners so slightly different but we obviously use sites aswell. Only one ds 9 but have had our van since he was a baby and we don't let him out to play until 8am anything before that is very rude. Also I think kids out playing after 10pm isn't acceptable either

Waveysnail · 07/08/2020 11:35

My dad used to take me for a walk away from campsite if I woke up early let mum lie in

How can a single parent get a 3 year old up and take them for a walk if their 1 year old is still asleep
I imagine most groups are not just one adult and several DC that don't wake each other up even when sleeping in the same tent. Anyway, for the rare scenario that you describe I imagine the parent could sit with the 3yo and read them stories, do colouring etc.

8am is really not a lie-in, I would be annoyed if there was noise earlier.

CatsArePeopleToo · 07/08/2020 11:49

Can't they play without screeching?
