Is this unreasonable....!!!

Cant help thinking it's a conspiracy theory to force us to go back to the Costas and Starbucks...

Lucky I have a couple of flasks!!! After wfh I realise how much money I was totally wasting on my coffees every day ;)

Why is there a human right to tea/coffee?

I don't drink the stuff, or any caffeine, at all.

Not the end of the world!

Try it a few days and you might be surprised

With regards to food - packed lunch?

rainbowunicorn · 06/08/2020 14:19

Good god, I can't believe some of these replies. Reality check needed for a few of you. A huge amount of workplaces do not have canteens, kitchens or even kettles, microwaves or fridges. Just take a flask and if you have food that needs to be kept cold buy an insulated lunchbag and a couple of cool packs from just about any supermarket.

Highlandshortbread · 06/08/2020 14:21

I think it’s quite funny how precious and entitled adults are. Grin

You have a bloody job. Be grateful!

Boo hoo about having to use a cool bag.

Haenow · 06/08/2020 14:21

YABU.
It’s important for many people to be able to access the office so giving up communal spaces doesn’t seem to be too much of a hardship.
I’ve never had access to a fridge and managed to have a packed lunch.

OchonAgusOchonO · 06/08/2020 14:23

@Pythone - With no fridge to put it in, in the middle of summer?

We have a fridge at work. I prefer to let my lunch fester in my office (well, I use a cool bag and icepack) as the fridge is absolutely disgusting. God knows what is growing in it.

Apparently, it's not the cleaners' responsibility and I obviously work with some disgusting people who don't clean up spillages etc. The microwave is the same. I do use the kettle though as that seems to be fine.

Mittens030869 · 06/08/2020 14:23

What about a thermos flask with tea or coffee and a cool bag? Job done.

Aragog · 06/08/2020 14:24

Dh's office is pretty much like this now. No kitchen facilities unless they bring their own kettles etc in. No microwave to cook either. They can use the fridge though, and the sink.

Some time in flasks. Dh tends to buy a drink at lunch and I think he's shared the kettle his pa brought in.

notacooldad · 06/08/2020 14:24

No kitchen!
No canteen!!
It's a hard knock life😂😂😂😂😂

Doyoumind · 06/08/2020 14:24

In 25 years of working I think I have only ever (briefly) worked at one place with a canteen.

Newdaynewname1 · 06/08/2020 14:25

Get a good coolpack, and you are fine! we don’t have any fridges and kitchens in the office, never had

MaveyWavey · 06/08/2020 14:25

There weren’t any kitchens or microwaves or fridges at my previous employer (large corporate) where I used to work. Only an overpriced restaurant serving very average food. It was a revelation when I started somewhere new earlier this year which has fridges, microwave and a kettle! They even provide staff with mill and teabags. Its amazing!

I dont put my sandwichs in the fridge though...

Michaelbaubles · 06/08/2020 14:26

You don’t all have to be a bunch of bitches about it - if you’re used to a kitchen and canteen, it’s shit to be without one. Honestly, people can’t wait to jump on posters these days.

LIZS · 06/08/2020 14:32

As long as there is drinking water and toilets the office can open. Take a flask of hot water for tea and coffee.

Laaalaaaa · 06/08/2020 14:32

Quit your job. It’s the only option. Maybe look into suing for breach of your human rights.

AriettyHomily · 06/08/2020 14:34

We had loads of bloody return to office zoom q and A's and without a doubt people's biggest concern about the whole thing was not having a fridge or tea point.

It was infuriating. Ffs get a lunchbox and a thermos.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 06/08/2020 14:36

Cool bag is your friend. And rather than use ice packs I just freeze a bottle of water (or use the ikea ice packs that double as a bottle of water) that way you have cold water to drink later on.

We have a staff canteen but it only open 11-2 so basically only used by admin and management. Never seen any clinical staff in there. Its only sandwiches and jackets though.

I miss the canteen at Morristons. Did a lovely braising steak dinner for 1.50. Alas tis the only place I've worked with a proper full menu canteen. I think they are largely a thing of the past.

Shouldbedancingyeah · 06/08/2020 14:37

What a disaster! How will you nourish yourself? 🥺

SimonJT · 06/08/2020 14:38

I’m due in work one day a month from September, no kitchen facilties to be used etc. They haven’t mentioned drinking water yet, the kitchen has a tap but we don’t have any other sources of drinking water.

I need access to a fridge to store medication, we also have a team member who needs a fridge to store breast milk. Instead of saying n people can use the fridge for n purposes we are going to have our own personal mini fridges, not a waste at all for one day a month!

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 06/08/2020 14:39

I bought a small fridge for my classroom. I have Crohn's disease so have to be careful. It is just big enough for me and my TAs lunches and cold drinks. I also use food flasks a lot and my DH bought me an electric lunchbox that heats up your food so I am set for September!

netflixismysidehustle · 06/08/2020 14:40

I'd get myself a kettle and jar of coffee

Sarah510 · 06/08/2020 14:43

OK got it!!!! Maybe people were getting too elaborate - there used to be a queue for the microwave with people heating up last nights leftovers. I will miss a kettle. Flask tea and coffee just don't last the whole day, not the same as freshly boiled water, I've always had access to a kettle I think , even 30 years ago when I started working

Agree, think people are jealous other workplaces actually have facilities for their staff.

I work in a hospital, we have had access to our microwave and fridge and boiling water throughout.

Yeahnahmum · 06/08/2020 14:46

Bring your own food and drinks ffs.

Mittens030869 · 06/08/2020 14:47

Obviously it doesn't taste the same, but there's nothing quite like a flask of tea when you're on a hike or a mountain climb. It's different but it's definitely better than no tea or coffee at all. It's about making the best of it.

So buy a travel kettle to use at your desk. All kinds of options.
