Hi everyone . I'm new too universal credit . It's too see if Someone can answer my question and help me please . I got my first payment of universal credit in July my next payment is due the 18th August. I got a flat and had too pay deposit and one months rent . When I got my first payment I had too pay back what I borrowed from family . My rent was due on 1st August before my rent was due my mum was helping me just for this month till everything was sorted . My mum put a few different payments into my bank account of 200 pounds and 100 and 150 and 175. Does anyone know if this will affect my payment for August if they think it's income I've been receiving . Thank you

They don't have access to your bank account so can't see what's been going in and out directly. They might at some point ask you to produce bank statements - eg to prove your income or that your don't have savings above the limit. If they do that I'd suggest adding a short note to the statement saying that these were one off payments/loans from your mum to help you out at a difficult time and are not going to be regular. But it should be fine.

It shouldn't affect it, if you're worried perhaps try calling them? It might help put you at ease

Dont call them- you will just complicate things for yourself.

It’s fine, your mum can gift/lend you money, they can only see income reported by your employer via HMRC. What you describe isn’t income.

All the rules are on Gov.uk

No please dont call to report these one off payments. It will lead to a whole rigmarole of declarations and enquiries just in case it has to be taken into account. Its fine. They cant see your bank account and are taking all information on trust at present.

If however it becomes a regular payment then you must report it.
