To tell my son his singing is awful

My (adult) son likes to sing and thinks he is talented but actually his singing is awful and he sings all the time when he's home, wandering around the kitchen singing at the top of his voice with his very deep out of tune noise singing.

I don't want to offend him but AIBU if I tell him to STFU and stop singing even though I know he sings because he's always in a good mood and it's me that's the grump.

If he's singing at 6am, then he's being a monumental twat.

Branleuse · 05/08/2020 23:23

Cant you join in with him?

Branleuse · 05/08/2020 23:24

Or do the guitar solos

DDemelza · 05/08/2020 23:32

Or drown him out with jungle music?

Am I in a relationship with your son? 😂 My DP loves belting out a good power ballad. Completely off key. I love him though and he sings when he's happy.

@steff I ask her to sing quietly 100 times a day, she does for a line of 2 and it gets louder and louder, she genuinely doesn't realise she's so loud, she wears earphones often so I think that distorts how she think she sounds.

Maybe he knows and is doing it to wind you up! 😂

6 am - fgs ! I’d be gagging the bollix! Do you live in a detached property ?

I would only tell him if he's going to do something that would embarrass him, like a public performance. You don't have to be able to sing to sing around the house. If it's excessive or annoying or too loud, there are ways of communicating that without telling him he can't sing.
