To think that masks are supposed to be worn by staff as well as shoppers?

I had to go into B & Q to get some bits to make repairs and was happy to see pretty much every customer was masked up. However, when I was going round the store around 50% of the staff had no face coverings, including some young men doing some physical work. Once I got to the checkouts only 2 out of ten staff (including a group of three that were chatting together) were wearing masks.

When I left I wrote an email of complaint but my DH thinks IABU as there are people who are exempt from wearing them but I think that there is no way that 2/3rd of B&Q employees would come under these categories. Have I missed that staff are exempt from mask wearing and therefore AIBU?

1000s of people do wear masks all day and the carbon dioxide thing being shared by idiots on SM is absolute bunkum

You probably should have checked the guidance before you complained about them doing something that was within the guidance.
Lesson for next time maybe.

Ha Ha, egg on your chin. Maybe learn how to not be a snitchy pants and of course getting your facts right is the most advisable.
maybe get a hobby, too much time obviously.

its a joke.
I do not get why they don't have to wear masks. but thats the stupid rules.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 05/08/2020 11:44

No they don't have to wear a mask but one of the big supermarket chains are making their staff wear them unless they have a recognised exemption.

You can't expect people to wear masks all day. Masks cause you to breathe in your own carbon dioxide and prevent enough oxygen getting into your lungs.
They do not prevent oxygen getting into your lungs. It has been proven they do not. Just put a pulse oximeter on your finger before wearing a mask and then do the same test while wearing a mask. A mask does not cause your oxygen saturation to go down, ergo, it does not prevent oxygen getting into your lungs.
As they are of breathable fabric, how the heck can they?

I went into a cafe this week for a hot sandwich to take away. I was disgusted that the staff weren't wearing masks, there was no one-way system, no screens, people who were eating in came up to the counter asking for spoons. There were literally no changes that could be seen from the pre-Covid times. I was the only mask wearer and looked at like I'd grown two heads. It's a great, friendly place but I am never going back there even when Covid is eliminated because they couldn't be arsed to try and protect customers. I would have complained to an authority but don't know who to complain to. They don't have a FB page to put a very honest review on.

Shame you didn't confront the staff about it OP. I'd have paid to watch you getting your arse handed to you in a plate.

Next time you'd best check "the rules" before firing off emails.

No, staff do not have to wear masks. There are a million and one other threads about this - please use the search function.

And no it's not pointless for customers to wear masks and staff not to wear them. Customers go in for a few minutes and protect themselves and the staff. Staff would have to wear a mask for eight hours straight (other than their lunch/other break). 10 minutes versus 8 hours.

No, they don't.

There are plenty of videos online proving this is categorically not the case. Some people with pre-existing breathing difficulties might struggle with a mask, but the vast, vast majority of people won't have a problem.

If masks stopped people getting enough oxygen to their lungs, why don't surgeons, dentists or engineers drop dead at work everyday?
