18th Birthday

Does anyone know of a venue space which would allow an 18th birthday?
We've asked around a few bar/restaurant type spaces which offer rooms to hire out, but no luck so far.
Some places don't allow 18th birthdays, some are still closed with covid etc.
For context, everyone attending will be in the same bubble, as the party would be in September after a return to school, so everyone in the school year will be in this bubble.
It would be for around 30 people.

You haven't even mentioned what area you live in.

DuckyMcDuck · 05/08/2020 09:09

Might be easier to help if you can specify an area; I know a couple close by but will be a bit of a trek if you live in Edinburgh Grin

But the safe won’t be in the same bubble. You may find more luck if you give a location.

You'll put the area of the country that you are in.

You might find it cancelled, which is why venues aren't taking bookings, now that local lockdowns are happening. They've been talking about closing venues, so the schools can go back.

Ponoka7 · 05/08/2020 09:13

But surely parents, wider family will be there? Not everyone in the year will be 18, so how will supervision work?

You won't be in a bubble, it will be a gathering of about 30 people.

VainAbigail · 05/08/2020 09:15

Please don’t say you live in Australia or something like that 🤔

stella139 · 05/08/2020 09:20

Sorry, forgot to say North East!

The school 'bubble' applies in school. There will be parents, family members and staff who are not in the school 'bubble' and gatherings of more than 30 people are not permitted so you will need to find alternative thing to do (we have an 18th this year for dd1 and she thoroughly understands the reason this has had to happen, we will do something small this year to mark the occasion and do what she really wants next year - hopefully!)

ThatDamnScientist · 05/08/2020 09:24

Oh sorry, I miss read saw the party isn't for more than 30 people (assuming that includes family, not on top of family).

stella139 · 05/08/2020 09:25

@ThatDamnScientist

Yes, it would be for 30 or less :)

None of our usual places locally are doing function suite hire at all just now. I think you will struggle. Any chance of hiring a marquee? Do you know anyone with a huge garden?

stella139 · 05/08/2020 09:32

@brastrapbroken we were thinking of this as an option. Our own garden is fairly small, but we could always have some sort of garden party (weather permitting), if we can't find a venue to hire.

Try cricket/rugby/football clubs. A lot have nice function rooms (some are dives so best to go view) and are happy to have 18th birthday parties.

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 05/08/2020 10:44

A lot of places won't allow 18th parties as a lot of the guests will still be 17 and therefore underage. Definitely likely to be the case with one held in September.

Equally those sorts of gatherings are not currently allowed under current covid rules irrespective of "bubbles".

I'm sorry but yabu.

Someaddedsugar · 05/08/2020 10:47

Have you tried a local working mens club - some are lovely inside and have large function rooms.

KeyWorker · 05/08/2020 11:34

All of our local venues don’t do 18th at all. It’s not a Covid thing, it’s more that it’s hard to police who is under age. With a September birthday most of the friendship group are likely to be under 18. It’s too much of a headache for most venues.
