To think it's skanky if you can afford designer jewellery and you...

fly tip your rubbish.

Found Armani packaging (watches I think) in the pile of rubbish dumped in the alleyway behind our house. So whoever's done it is obviously wealthy enough, they just don't give a fuck.

I just want to vent really. It's not on. I've got a good idea who did it too, but I can't prove anything.

Totally not in the spirit of your thread - but you can pick an Armani watch up for under £100. I’d hardly describe that as making someone ‘wealthy.’ Ain’t no Rolex is it.

Rich or poor, designer or pound shop, fly tippers are disgusting.
They should be made to work on a landfill site for six months, then down a sewer for another six like the filthy vermin they are.

safariboot · 04/08/2020 21:08

It was one box but looks like it held a pair of watches. I guess it could still have been nicked and maybe not related to the rest of the rubbish.

The alley is gated so only residents of the relevant houses have access. Then again it provides access to wasteland that's got a bigger flytip on it so it could well be someone living locally doing an illegal waste disposal business, but I think that would be rather conspicuous. No, my bet is on people dumping the waste from their own houses. Building waste, old furniture, that kind of stuff. Fingers crossed there's something with someone's name or address on it.

And people are right that flytipping would still be obnoxious even if someone was poor.

I know someone who was investigated and "helped with enquiries" for flytipping because their name and address was on some amazon packaging. Luckily they could prove that they had paid someone to take their rubbish (this was during lockdown when the tips were shut) and the real culprit was arrested and charged. They had raked in a fortune doing this but a fair few people had done it word of mouth and so had no proof they had paid this person. My friend found him on FB and so had the messages as proof that he was running a "business" scam and she paid in good faith.

Lookyloo · 04/08/2020 21:38

Don't get it. Doesn't council tax pay for waste disposal?

@DarkDarkNight

I think it’s skanky to fly tip full stop.
This.
funinthesun19 · 04/08/2020 22:07

It’s even worse if someone wealthy fly tips. It just smacks of arrogance at a whole different level than if someone in poverty did it.

Locally all the tips were closed just at the time when a lot of people were using furlough to do all those jobs they had put off. So lots of garden/house rubbish and nowhere to put it. My NDN has skips a lot due to his work and he said he struggled to get one as they were all booked out, presumably because of that.

So the guy I mentioned above advertised as a waste disposal service, and then fly tipped everything he picked up from people who couldnt get rid of their excess rubbish elsewhere.

Lets say your washer broke first week of lockdown and the disposal service wasnt available....where would you put it?

megletthesecond · 04/08/2020 22:28

It'll be fakes anyway.

SusieOwl4 · 04/08/2020 22:36

It does not mean the owners fly tipped ? They probably paid someone and they dumped it .

Iloveyoutothefridgeandback · 04/08/2020 22:45

You don't have enough info here. Armani packaging doesn't equal money, they could have had it for any number of reasons.

But yes, in general, fly tipping is skanky

TableFlowerss · 04/08/2020 22:46

I think it’s skanky to fly top full stop. It’s disgusting!

oakleaffy · 04/08/2020 22:47

Probably fakes or stolen.? Fly tipping is absolutely vile.

It's trashy (ha ha) behaviour no matter who does it. I don't find it any less obnoxious in the poor than in the wealthy, tbh.

Choppedupapple · 04/08/2020 23:03

Either stolen or knock off

PawPawNoodle · 04/08/2020 23:08

I have an Armani watch and it cost me £115 so I'm sure its not just wealthy people that have them.

maddening · 04/08/2020 23:11

They may have paid someone posing as a licensed refuse collector to take their rubbish, some are not licensed at all and just dump it, but the person whose rubbish it is remains responsible and can be fined if evidence is found.
