AIBU about mattress

Just before lockdown my partner and I bought a mattress, on the cheaper side of a good quality line. About a month ago the mattress started feeling lumpy and misshapen we thought the mattress protector / topper and gone bad but turns out the mattress dipped significantly in the middle and the springs had started to strain against the surface not sticking as such but when you are lying down your feel the dig in if that makes sense.
During lock down we might have spent slightly more time in bed but not much more we are not over weight and we haven’t put anything heavy on the mattress so I can’t understand why or what happen to it. I have called the company with no reply just an automated message to email. I have had one reply back asking for account details and that is it. I have no idea what to do, the shop isn’t local so can’t just pop in to talk to anyone. I have sent them a message on twitter which has been ignored. We could theoretically pay for an new one but we would have to budget hard. In my eyes it is a faulty or badly made mattress and should have lasted longer then 4 months and I shouldn’t have to pay fully for a new one.
Would I be unreasonable to demand a new on or money back or should I just suck it up and buy a new one

www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/visa-mastercard-chargeback/

This covers debit cards too.

Thank you! I am I’ll have a look into this! My only concern is that we had it for four month so they may turn round and say it’s our fault but will give it a go! :)

0-6 months old the onus is on them to prove it wasn't faulty or unfit for purpose so don't wait any longer.
Mattresses have years lifespan so it isn't unreasonable to expect it to last.
The bank are easier to deal with, put in a chargeback claim.

morriseysquif · 04/08/2020 16:34

Have you been turning it regularly?

VictoriaBun · 04/08/2020 16:37

What make is the mattress ? If it's from a well known reputable manufacturer then perhaps a direct call to their customer service may help.

Mosseywossey · 04/08/2020 16:47

We turn it every time we change the bedding every week and so. It a silent night

Are you supposed to turn it though? Some mattresses are rotate only. Only one side is designed with the high quality sleeping surface/support on non-turn mattresses.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/08/2020 16:58

What kind of place did you get it from - one of the majors or a small independent?

I'm very surprised the (usually very good) Silentnight would produce something like this, so am wondering if it's a cheap fake

VictoriaBun · 04/08/2020 17:01

I'd call Silentnight direct.

Mosseywossey · 04/08/2020 17:17

The instruction states to turn in every week for 4 months to achieve maximum longevity. We got it from major retailers. I thought we would be safe with them as they have always been good. I am now worried it’s a knock off but not sure how. I will check the label when my partner get back from work tonight.

A real silent night should last years!

Charleyhorses · 04/08/2020 17:31

How much did you pay?

Mosseywossey · 04/08/2020 17:48

I think we paid around 400 as we used a discount and it was part of the sales
