I wqas woke from my sleep at 00:20 by the sound of a child having a tantrum / screaming the house concerned is across the road and five houses down so the child was really letting rip.
What do I do would hate to let child abuse go un reported?

What's wrong with you?

Child abuse?! Don't talk to the neighbour ffs.

When a toddler wakes from a bad dream or just decides they don't want to be in bed anymore, they scream at the top of their lungs. It's normal and more noticeable in the dead of night.

My toddler has had really disturbed sleep during lockdown and we've had many, many early and late tantrums. I would be furious if a neighbour came over to talk to me about it. Mind your own business.

My son has Autism and when he wakes in the night he has a complete meltdown. It can take anything upto an hour to calm him down again. This could be another potential reason

So no, please don’t talk to them. They probably found it difficult to deal with anyone without having the added shame of neighbours addressing it

It's been very hot the last few nights, if your windows were open and their windows were open and with it being midnight it makes sense that you could hear the child from 5 doors down. If it is the first time this has ever happened and there is nothing else going on that you haven't mentioned then that in no way indicates abuse! My first thought would be bad dreams/night terrors/illness/fallen out of bed....certainly not abuse.

And yes if it isn't a regular occurrence there is absolutely no need to talk to the parents Hmm
