So my OH is self employed plumber, he was called out to a job this morning for a bathroom leak. He had nearly finished the job when the lady who’s house he was in and completing the job for told him she was awaiting her covid swab result as she had a “bad new cough” which she had taken the afternoon before...! Now this had pissed me of by my husband doesn’t seem bothered... he’s happy to be back to work I guess. He finished the job then left, I feel like I want to call her and ask if she’s had her results and explain she shouldn’t have had someone over into her house while awaiting the results.

If he app socially distanced he doesn’t need to self islolate unless told or by nhs track and trace....see below:

When to self-isolate

Self-isolate if:

you have any symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
you've tested positive for coronavirus – this means you have coronavirus
you live with someone who has symptoms or has tested positive
someone in your support bubble has symptoms or has tested positive
you're told by NHS Test and Trace that you've been in contact with a person with coronavirus
What is a support bubble?

Runnerduck34 · 03/08/2020 15:50

She should have definitely pre warned him but I'm guessing she was worried about him refusing to come and it was an emergency but still selfish as it could impact his business at best and his health at worst.
I hope she socially distanced etc.
Definitely need to phone her and check what her test results are, fingers crossed it will be clear!
I am having a new boiler installed today, two self employed plumbers here but tbh they didnt check if we had any symptoms and i didnt check if they had either, they arent wearing masks or gloves, but we are socially distancing but Im still making them cups of tea! So much is based in trust and common sense.

RedToothBrush · 03/08/2020 16:01

@OverTheRainbow88

Well that’s the thing, he does ask on the phone and nothing was disclosed until the job almost done. He would have gone in an emergency and asked her to wear a mask and he would have worn a mask and asked her to not stay in the same room, with the window open to the room he’s working in.

He has a very good risk assessment in place, but people lie because they want the work done.

He did socially distance, turned down the cupa he was offered and sanitised hands on arrival and when left.

So he wasn't taking covid precautions himself.

He could have been carrying and given it to other customers.

You now have to find out the result of her test / get your husband tested anyway otherwise you risk him going to a bunch of other jobs and then testing positive and having to contact all the customers to tell them which REALLY would be bad for your business's reputation.

In the meantime, he really should not be working under the circumstances.

rwalker · 03/08/2020 16:35

@redtoothbrush
Yes he was he screened her before and she lied .
good hand hygiene and social distance was all he needed.

lillylemons · 03/08/2020 16:38

did your husband ask her about anyone in the household having covid symptoms? we had a plumber out on Friday and again today and both of them asked me if anyone in my household was showing symptoms
I also had an electrician out today and he asked too.

WhatWillSantaBring · 03/08/2020 16:40

I'd get your OH to call her back and ask for her to confirm when she has her test results back. And tell her that he can't now take on work in an until that result comes back clear, so please next time, could she consider the consequences. Make her feel guilty.

RedToothBrush · 03/08/2020 16:42

Hes been going into multiple different households without ppe.

Thats a recipe for problems. Screening wont work alone for a disease where we know many people with it are unsympathetic.

I would be really alarmed at an emergency plumber (who could have been dealing with sewage which we know is a potential source of infection) turned up without a mask as standard practice

Im afraid i have little patience nor sympathy given that. The husband was quite happy to potentially be exposing others and the op is only concerned when the tables are turned.

user1493413286 · 03/08/2020 16:42

That’s awful; anyone whose been in our house has called me the day before though to check no one has symptoms so if people are being that thoughtless maybe he needs to do that

OverTheRainbow88 · 03/08/2020 17:02

Sorry I’ve got a bit more time to write,

If they find our company online and send an online message they tick a box to confirm no one in their household has any Symptoms. They also tick a box confirming they will contact us if their circumstance change between booking us in and when we go.

If they call, we ask over the phone. In this instance the lady said all fine.

My husband is going to call her tomorrow and ask, in the meantime while we wait to see, his dad will Carry out the jobs booked in.

It’s frustrating as he’s already missed 2 days of work as our son had a cough so we follow the guidelines, got a test and waited for result- which was negative.

Sanitising hands on arrival, social distancing and the home occupier not being in the same room, then sanitising hands when leaving Seems sufficient. If they say it’s an emergency with symptoms they both wear masks; window in room working in open, and occupier stays in a different room.

Keeping the names and numbers of those -attended to as well.

I’m not sure how that isn’t taking precautious as suggested by some?

He should be wearing a mask himself, surely? We had some emergency work needed. The builder woreamask. All the.physios and community nurses who have been visiting me come protected. We have no danger of covid in our house as we've all more or less been behaving as if we're shielding; I've been injured and stuck in bed for almost all of lockdown unable to move, dd has stayed in, dh is our shopper and is paranoid about bringing it home so runs away when anyone is seen even innthe.distance!

OverTheRainbow88 · 03/08/2020 17:03

He was also called out to someone shielding and happily wore a mask and gloves.

@diddl

"He would have gone in an emergency and asked her to wear a mask and he would have worn a mask and asked her to not stay in the same room, with the window open to the room he’s working in."

Should he not be taking these precautions anyway?

This
OverTheRainbow88 · 03/08/2020 17:08

The ironic thing is come September I’m back to teaching in a school with 1700 students teaching across every year bubble and we’re not allowed to wear a mask!

OP posts:
OverTheRainbow88 · 03/08/2020 17:14

One bleedin' obvious thing to include, if he's going into people's homes, is to ask them to confirm that nobody in the household has had any covid symptoms in the past 14 days before he turns up there.

In this case it was done twice, initially she filled in a form online with her details and the problem, ticked the confirming all well, and then when my OH called to confirm a time he asked again then

OP posts:
OverTheRainbow88 · 03/08/2020 17:15

We’ve got all the paperwork printed to show she ticked it as well

‘His health at worst....... and all the other clients after he came in contact with after!

‘Common sense and trust’ guess you and your plumbers have neither Hmm

MrDarcysMa · 03/08/2020 17:22

OP after your updates I think your husband should call her ASAP and tell her she has lost him 2 days work and advise she takes things more seriously next time, not just for her sake but for others.
How annoying for him.

fatgirlslimmer · 03/08/2020 17:24

Your DH should not be relying on others to warn him.

Yes he needs to do an assessment but he should be wearing a mask and ensuring social distancing and ventilation in every home. Treat everyone as though they have it for the very reason that there will always be people who are selfish enough not to tell him or who will be asymptomatic.

PollyPelargonium52 · 03/08/2020 17:27

Neither the plumber nor mobile engineer wore a mask or asked any risk assessment questions when they came. Some people lax and others stringent.

Branleuse · 03/08/2020 17:33

yes id be pissed off with that too, but if he is not protecting himself, then he is partly to blame. I hope its nothing

Viviennemary · 03/08/2020 17:46

She should be reported. Totally out of order. Your DH should have a test.

OverTheRainbow88 · 03/08/2020 17:58

If my DH has a test it can take 2 weeks for symptoms to show, so it’s a bit pointless.

My OH will call tomo and ask, in meantime he’s got someone covering his work for tomo.

I find it odd people think he isn’t taking precautions.

OP posts:
IKEA888 · 03/08/2020 18:35

just awful but he needs to have a form on place for risk assessing that clients sign before he enters a property.
He should be fine if he had a mask on.

BatShite · 03/08/2020 19:02

I would bet she thought the work wouldn't get done if she was honest from the start. Not that that makes it right of course, but it does make 'sense'.

OverTheRainbow88 · 04/08/2020 11:16

It came back inconclusive 🙄
