To ask how much you pay for life insurance?

I know it will depend hugely on amount covered and also current health, but I feel like we spend too much on our's and it's a real chunk each month while I'm at home (due baby shortly and have toddler too) although equally I think it's really sensible to have in case anything happens to us

Looking at around 200K life level cover 40 years, 50K critical illness. Both young and healthy. DH was tested for a genetic condition which the insurance company weren't allowed to ask about directly but which his family history implied. Thankfully he tested negative, I wonder if this may reduce premium?

We could also look at lessening life cover as hopefully this will become less important in future when I'm back at work and we have more savings, albeit later down the line of course we're more likely to make a claim

I am going to look at quotes later when I have DH to hand to double check all the health questions that will be asked but I remember it being a really long process last time and there was talk of a nurse coming for a health check although in the end this was deemed unnecessary

Thank you

DP and I have a reducing life insurance for the term of our mortgage (started at 200k 3 years ago) that costs just over £25 - we pay higher due to BMI and a health condition that DP has.
I also have my own cover for £25 per month for £200k of cover for me and critical illness cover for DS of £25k.
DP has his own too for £10 per month for £150k.
So all in £575k cover for around £60 per month.
We also both have death in service in our work contracts and 6mth full pay and 6 mths half pay for sickness leave.

Mine was about £40 for 2 of us for life insurance but over 200 if I included critical illness which I couldnt afford to include.

£8.53 a month for 15 years- £250k cover. I only wanted it to last until my DC are out of university as I have no mortgage and no partner. (If that changes I’ll obviously change my cover)

Smallsteps88 · 03/08/2020 12:45

I have no critical illness though which I might consider now.

£35 a month for mortgage paid off and £500k. We also have death in service through work.

If we were both to die, DS would get the house and £250k and whoever brought him up would get £500k with my DP as trustees (and guardians if their health remains excellent, if not then one of my siblings).

Thank you, very variable and some responses more like what we are paying

I will look at bringing the term down as agree we don't need 40 years, and also maybe change to a reducing life insurance. Agree the critical illness is vital and we'll prioritise keeping that

£36/month for £400k life insurance, £40k critical illness which covers me and DS(2YO) (soon to be widowed parent of one, and I'm 30 - no mortgage yet).

That is broken up as about £14/month life insurance, and about £22/month critical illness. I got mine through a company called Caspian, but the insurance itself is with AIG.

DivGirl · 03/08/2020 20:16

Oops, should have said the critical illness covers me until I'm 65 (I think, I'd have to check). The life insurance is for 23 years.

mindutopia · 03/08/2020 20:34

£30 a month for 420k life insurance only (no critical illness, which is much more expensive).
