Does this make school reopening less likely?

If children are more likely to spread COVID-19 where does that leave schools? I don't feel wearing masks is sustainable for the whole school day. I can't see how schools will be able to keep families and staff safe but I do know that we need to regrow the economy quickly.

Schools will be opened as normal. Quite possibly staff will drop like flies for the first couple of terms. Government will stick their fingers in their ears going lallalallalalallala. Herd immunity within schools will be obtained by Easter.

That's my theory anyway

I think they will open but at a cost to something else closing or shielding.

I agree with the above poster, schools will reopen regardless of spread ect, they opened them up to quickly in my opinion.

I think schools will open regardless. Whether they manage to stay open is yet to be seen.
I think the government will pull the reigns back on all of us seeing family etc as / when cases rise in a hope this will help. When it doesn’t I think there will be a problem as it puts them in a position of education v economy.

I agree but that's a tough call. Education is so crucial. I have a feeling many Local Authorities appear to be anticipating another series wave as they are equiping teachers with VPN laptops to enable secure connections for live lessons but if parents need to work I can't see this being any more successful than last time.

I think the Government have already decided they will open schools in September regardless. No idea how they plan to sustain this once Teachers start going off sick though.

I don't think so, there are plenty of studies showing the opposite - so without seeing the full peer reviewed papers it hard to know what this means for schools. When schools were open for key workers it didnt seem they were major transmitters - albeit with much reduced numbers / easier social distancing. I think if the rapid saliva test do work then they can be used greatly to investigate and contain outbreaks in / linked to schools.

I hope we open fully...and stay open! But I'm not sure how much my hopes will come true, sadly! 😢 (or how well teachers in my own personal category will fair 😢😢...late 50s, vulnerable health category!) I'm not worried for myself in all honesty, never have been...I've been desperately wanting to go back and was so happy to be able to finally be allowed to on 1st July (albeit behind a taped area in my classroom).

I hated working from home...it was really stressful and I've never worked such long hours in my life (and I work long hours anyway!!)

We can't predict the trajectory of this virus, or how the government will react unfortunately. We just have to hope for the best whilst preparing for the worst I fear 🤦‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️
