AIBU to work out my own Plan B for schools

A month or so ago when we were told that schools would be opening in full in September, I felt relieved as we found homeschooling a real struggle.

Fast forward a few weeks and I'm now worrying that I've been incredibly naive and that even if the schools do open full time in September? For how long? Are we going to find ourselves in the same situation as before only with local lockdowns this time and schools closed? I'm thinking that remote areas will be ok but not major towns and cities.

Have you put in place your own Plan B i.e tutors etc? If you what is your plan B. Have you moved to private or online schools? Or are you confident that all will be well in September?

Unfortunately my Plan B, which has been put in action...

  • stop job hunting
  • prepare to teach them myself again.

Hopefully the school will be more proactive this time. I'm not meaning Live online lessons, but more than a few hours work a week, including work suitable for my struggling child.

You are wise to have a plan B. Have a look at what's happening in Melbourne.

There is no chance guarantee that all schools will fully open in September and stay open without disruption.

I believe schools are planning on moving things more online so that they are more prepared if it happens again x

My older dc coped really well with the online work but they were yr 7,8 & 9. I’m not sure how year 10 will work online with the options my ds has chosen. My eldest is really struggling with maths and science so if we can afford it in sept then I’d try to get some sort of tutoring.

My youngest are yr 1&2 and I’ve purchased a lot of work books to cover the summer as I know they are behind now and I’ve got some sets of reading books. I’m just about to order more work books for September just incase.

I’m lucky though as I don’t work and I was able to set aside £80 so I’ve been able to buy books and stuff. I worry for those who can’t afford stuff and are busy working. I hope the schools will help these children.

I do worry though as I’m thick so I can’t help our older dc, luckily DH is more able Grin

It sounds like @Aroundtheworldin80moves is in a similar situation to me. That is my plan, and I share the same concerns with what has been offered so far.

Definitely wise to have a back-up plan.
