Noise cancelling headphones

I'm seething but will try and make this brief!

DH has got noise cancelling headphones. We have two small DC - DD 3 and DS 7 months.

DH is furloughed and has been since April. I'm on mat leave and have been since December.

I'm getting increasingly annoyed and actually feel really hurt, by the fact he keeps wearing these noise cancelling headphones.

Off to mow the lawn, to put the washing in, going upstairs to fold some laundry, cooking dinner... he is super helpful round the house and definitely shares the load chores wise but it I'm getting really cross with the fact that I am unable to communicate with him. This could be as simple as me wanting him to watch the baby while I help DD go to the toilet (she still needs help wiping after a no2!) or something like one of them is crying as they've hurt themselves. Or even asking him if he fancies a cup of tea!

His argument is that I'm on mat leave and should be looking after the kids on my own anyway. I get that and I can totally manage them both! However, I can't help feeling that he is purposely blocking us out and tuning out everyone else's needs so he can have some peace and quiet and space.

It's come to a head tonight after I asked him to put the sprinkler on while I bathed both kids. The baby was crying and tired and grumpy and DD slipped and hurt her knee and bashed her head on the sink. Called for him to give me a hand but he couldn't hear me. I ended up bellowing and waving out of the window to try and catch his attention.

I wouldn't dream of using something that meant I couldn't hear my small people and I just can't see how he thinks this is fair! Am I wrong? Please tell me what you think!

Hows the head?Is your little one ok?your pg and he’s left you doing the bulk of tasks while he wafts about in a hermetic bubble.
I see the need to wear headphones time limited when he’s working
Not socially when he’s not working
He’s a dad and partner not a fucking passing observer. He needs to pull the finger out. Step up be a responsible parent, good partner

No hints- get him told you need help and he needs to be a dad and partner

Really selfish behaviour on your husband's part. No wonder you're annoyed.

chipsandpeas · 02/08/2020 19:54

id hide them

Are the not headphones linked to his phone? - I often wear them when working from home but DH can always call me if he needs me (usually to let me know lunch is ready)

Erm. He thinks you should look after the kids because you are on maternity leave when he is home all day. And you think that is ok?

TellMeAStoryIllTellYouTheTruth · 02/08/2020 19:58

I have done that tonight @chipsandpeas! I've hidden them in the airing cupboard in a fit of rage 😂😳

@cortex10 yea they are, but I don't think I should have to call my husband to ask him something! Aside from the fact I have my hands full enough with two kids, I think he should be present enough to be part of daily life without me having to call him to ask him a simple question or for his help!

And yes @Charleyhorses, you're spot on. This is probably the root of the problem and the sodding headphones have just exacerbated it 🤦🏼‍♀️

If you both around you should help each other out.
Being on furlough doesn't mean pretend he s really at work while you run around.
Yez you on mat leave but he is in the house so can take his headphone off and be present.
