Is it your index finger or middle finger? Sorry can't quite tell as there are lines on both

Menora · 01/08/2020 22:24

Go to a minor injuries unit and have it looked at

MrsWooster · 01/08/2020 22:25

Better safe than sorry. DEFINITELY go urgently if there’s any redness moving up from it towards your arm.

MinnieJackson · 01/08/2020 22:25

Oops sorry just saw you said index finger. It looks like it's healing, there isn't redness or inflammation around the cut. I'm not a doctor though Confused did the pus come out when you bent it or did you squeeze?

LegoMaus · 01/08/2020 22:29

If it has pus it‘s likely that you didn’t clean the cut properly and it has something stuck inside. I’d prod it with a sterilised needle and see if there’s anything in it. A little cut that oozes pus usually isn’t anything to worry about though, I get them regularly in the garden and it usually means there’s a thorn or something in there.

ChristmasFluff · 01/08/2020 22:52

If you phone your GP (UK) they will send you to a walk-in centre urgent treatment - your photos show nothing, but going on what you say.

You will be given antibiotics/antiparasitics as needed. I waited way too long when a cat bit me and got a bollocking

Rose789 · 02/08/2020 00:04

Not sure if the photo quality is just bad but I can’t see anything.
If you can’t bend your finger at all I.e it’s not just painful to bend it because of where the cut is then yeah it might be wise to get it checked out.
What caused the cut? And did you thoroughly clean the area afterwards?
Tonight I would soak your whole hand in hot salty water to bring any pus to the surface. See how it looks tomorrow

ChestyNut · 02/08/2020 00:14

I also can’t see any cut?

Jamestown · 02/08/2020 00:17

Both fingers look the same in the photo.

KorkMum · 02/08/2020 00:31

It's fine.

dontgobaconmyheart · 02/08/2020 00:32

Not sure if it's the photo OP but I can't really see anything other than a small line. Is there any redness or swelling on your finger or hand? When you say pus, do you mean a clear liquid or do you mean pus as in opaque yellow/green consistency?

When you say you "can't bend it" do you mean it hurts to bend it at the site of the cut, or that you can't bend your finger whatsoever? How did this cut happen?

YANBU as such to do what you see fit re: getting it checked but I would be asking the GP to perhaps look at a photo of it rather than go in in the first instance. Covid 19 hasn't gone anywhere. Wash the hand well in the meantime, keep it clean and take some paracetamol if its bothering you until you get further advice.

WhyCantIBeYou · 02/08/2020 00:33

There's nothing wrong that I can see. Don't bother a doctor with this

mankyfinger · 02/08/2020 02:21

It's got pus coming out if I push around it but not much. I think it came from the garden too @LegoMaus

I will give it another proper clean tomorrow and more anti septic cream on it. I'll also cover it up.

I took some paracetamol for it and it's really helped as it was so sore that actually the top of my hand hurt as well

The photo quality is awful, it is my index finger, I took it in the dark and my phone is dirty, sorry.

Thank you everyone for the advice I'll clean it more and see how it is.

Theres nothing majorly infected looking in the photos. No dwelling or large areas of redness. If you develop these I'd go to the pharmacist for an opinion first rather than going straight to a doctor cuts a b fingers tend to stiffen ip and get very sore and painful as they heal which I'd expect. You probably didn't clean the cut properly initially hence had a tiny amount if infection causing the pus. as long as it's only small and you dont have a large area of hot, red or swollen skin of get a fever I think you're fine. It looks absolutely fine from what's visible in your pictures.

Newjez · 02/08/2020 08:49

It doesn't look too bad from the photo, but only you can judge. Keep it smothered with anti septic cream and take ibuprofen if you can.

I am shielding as I have blood cancer, and I had to attend the emergency doctor with a blocked salivary gland yesterday. It was a good experience. Well organized, and I was the only patient. So if you have to go to the doctor's, don't beat yourself up about it. Just mask up, use gel and shower afterwards.

Purplewithred · 02/08/2020 08:53

Show it to a pharmacist first - they can advise, they are a great first line of help for small things like this.

picklemewalnuts · 02/08/2020 13:46

Soak it in warm saltwater. Give it a little rub.

No offence Intended, but no one seems to do the basic home care any more.

We did full on basic surgery when I was a kid- sterilising a needle, going fishing for a splinter, scooping out gloop...

Arrowcat · 02/08/2020 13:53

It looks mildly infected.
Clean with boiled salt water. Up to 4 daily.
Anti septic cream.
If you have any iodine spray or corsodyl mouthwash pop that on it before the antiseptic cream.
Squeeze the pus out.
It really doesn't look or sound like you need to go to minor injuries or have antibiotics. There is no spreading infection there.
Pop into a pharmacy before they close and get some supplies (see above ).
