Ok so I know I am probably BU.

I suffer from Generalised Anxiety Disorder and over the last year I have managed to get off my meds. I had to give up work due to my anxiety (have good and bad days) but have been managing well recently (for me) and have started to challange myself.

DP lost his job at the start of covid so we have been managing on savings and a tiny bit of benefits since then. Hes been looking for work but is having no luck. I've managed to get a few hours a week waiting on in a restaurant. Later today is my first shift and I'm an anxious mess. On the verge of a panic attack, feel sick. I know I can do this. I just need to get there and I will be fine.

Can I have a hand hold and a kick up the ass please? There is a chance of more hours if i can make a good impression and we need the money.

Sorry just needed a bit of a moan. Stupid anxiety Confused

Yeah the feeling of having actually succeeded in doing something that pushes me to my limits is great. I know I have the ability to do so many things but the constant "what ifs" and the playing of every conceivable situation in my head usually means I cant cope and chicken out. Feels amazing to conquer something. I still know I'm going to spend the time until my next shift analysing everything but I'm hoping after a few more shifts that will stop Blush

Yes OP, you rock! So glad you managed to stick 2 fingers up at the anxiety imp and do it anyway. Next shift will be easier as you know you can do it. Enjoy your wine, you’ve earned it!

Great news! If they're offering you extra shifts already they must be really happy with you.

Just wanted to update you lovely people. So I've done a few shifts and have been fine. Have really enjoyed it Grin

Today I had a message offering me more hours on a permanent basis and I am made up. It's still not a huge amount of hours but it feels great to be earning some money. I'm still anxious before i go in but i now know i can do it.

So glad you all gave me the push i needed to get to that first shift. Thank you

I didn’t see this when you first posted but what a lovely thread. I’m really pleased for you and it sounds like it’s all going great Smile

Caelano · 08/08/2020 13:55

@Worrierallthetime this is a fantastic thread. You’ve really highlighted that although meds and other treatments have their place, an important part of life for all of us, whatever our mental health is to keep on taking those small steps out of our comfort zone. Feeling anxious about new situations and Worrying we won’t cope well are common feelings - well done you for pushing beyond that. And you’re absolutely right that it’s only when we do that, that we get that buzz of achievement. Keep on keeping on!

Thecobwebsarewinning · 08/08/2020 13:59

I came to this thread late but I’m so happy for you. Well done.

Well done, I'm really pleased for you 🌺.
You can do it, and even if you have the odd bad shift just remember all the good ones you have done.

That’s great news-well done op-you should be very proud of yourself! You rock 🙌

Worrierallthetime · 08/08/2020 23:22

Ahhh thank you everybody. I'm just home after a very busy shift. It's strange that I can hold it all together whilst there but then I get home and let all my anxiety out. Its bloody knackering!

I'm feeling more proud of myself after every shift. I still know that I will have my bad days and getting out of bed will feel like a mammoth task but I'm hoping that they happen on days I'm not working.

I done 6 hours surrounded by people/customers in work then struggled keeping a panic attack at bay on the way home when I popped to the shop for a pint of milk. The Joy's of GAD!

Once again, thank your for the support. And like pp said it really feels like moving forward from here. Flowers
