Gallbladder pain?

Turtletotem · 01/08/2020 03:21

Sorry it's not AIBU.
Does anyone on here suffer with pain from gallbladder? I have such pain in my back between my shoulder blades and upper abdomen. I had an ultrasound last year which found a single gallstone, they said it probably wouldn't cause symptoms. But now the pain during the night sometimes keeps me awake for hours.

YABU to post this on AIBU

Groovee · 01/08/2020 03:31

I'd see a dr. I hadn't realised it was gall bladder pain after living with it for a year. Had my gall bladder removed and no issues since.

Turtletotem · 01/08/2020 03:45

Thank you, it's difficult to see my Dr at the moment they're doing telephone consultations but will try again.

Vikingwife you're right sorry it's the wrong place to post I'll try to get it removed.

Your dr should see you face to face if they need but you might need a telephone apt first.

partystress · 01/08/2020 03:48

Awake with it now. Resisting GB removal as the pain is my weight control mechanism. I fear I would overeat if there were no pain consequences, but it’s getting worse and I am having my third miserable night in a row.

Hope yours settles down soon OP.

Lookyloo · 01/08/2020 03:51

You're perfectly fine posting in AIBU. I see no issue.

GP my dear and hopefully hospital. If at any point it becomes too bad to bear, get yourself to A&E.

Turtletotem · 01/08/2020 03:58

It's making me so miserable.
I ate a chinese takeaway last night and I imagine that has caused such a bad night tonight. I don't know anyone else that has had this problem so it's comforting to get advice from people that understand.

Hey I was being light hearted, post away wherever you please ! Flowers

partystress · 01/08/2020 04:20

Lying on my front in kind of Sphinx position eases it a bit, but can’t sleep like that.

HippoMumsy · 01/08/2020 04:24

GB pain is worse than childbirth, no exaggeration. I got my gallbladder removed and have never had any problems since. My advice is take every painkiller available and get your gallbladder removed ASAP. I haven’t had any problems at all since having it taken out. Hope you’re ok, it’s extremely painful xx

Turtletotem · 01/08/2020 04:35

Partystress thanks for the tip I'll try anything at this stage.
It's only been this bad once before. I've been up with it since half one. I'm sure things will seem a lot better in the morning...

Partystress be really wary of using gallbladder pain as weight control. I don't think that is a healthy thing to do at all.

partystress · 01/08/2020 05:09

Doineed1 I was being slightly flippant, but it does mean I avoid eg cream and cheese. I really miss eggs though.

More seriously, I lost my mum to pancreatic cancer. She’d had her GB removed (as had my Nana) and I have read that removal of GB GB is a risk factor. So while I would be happy to have stones zapped away, I do want to avoid GB removal if I can.

steff13 · 01/08/2020 06:07

I had an ultrasound of my gallbladder and I had no stones. My doctor said it was unusual for an adult not to have any gallstones so she sent me for a different kind of a test and it turned out that my gallbladder wasn't working at all. just because you only have one stone doesn't mean that you don't have a problem with your gallbladder. The test I had was a HIDA scan.

notsureconfused · 01/08/2020 06:24

You can't have gall bladder stones zapped away, that's just kidney stones. You're going to have to have it out, it will only get worse 😔

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 01/08/2020 06:41

That sounds like gall stone pain.
Get yourself a referral to general surgery.
In the meantime cut right down on fat and spices and take ibruprufen or some other anti inflammatory for the pain.
Some people find peppamint oil helps.

RonaldMcDonaldio · 01/08/2020 06:42

Get thee some buscopan OP - take it with whatever painkillers you can tolerate, it takes the edge off. The pain will ease when the gallbladder and bile duct stop contracting around that stone, which is probably increasing in size (I had a biggun, the surgeon proudly told me he had to break it into pieces inside my gallbladder to pull the whole lot out through the keyhole incision Smile).

Different things trigger different people, for me it was full fat Greek yoghurt and sweet sugary things that gave me the most agonising pain. But I could eat butter etc, weird.

Do a telephone consultation with your GP and ask for a new scan - lay it on thick about repeated attacks and hopefully they will refer you to get it removed. Gallstones can't be dissolved, removed, "flushed out" by diet, or zapped away - once you've got one it remains, and once you've had one attack it will keep coming back. The only resolution is removal, although some people are able to control the pain with diet alone. I was very fortunate to be referred almost immediately - I went from being in pain an awful lot for a good 4 months before finally seeing a GP in July (this was 4 years ago) - had US scan within a week, and had my gallbladder removed 4 months later in the November. Sorted. Smile

pain is my weight control mechanism
Jeazo! I'd much rather be fat and healthy again.

Turtletotem · 01/08/2020 08:30

The pain subsided about 6ish so have had some sleep now.
Thanks so much for your kindness and support. I will call my dr again on Monday and speak to her again. She did say that ibuprofen could aggravate it though so I've avoided that. I'll try buscopan though. Hope others suffering have managed to get some sleep too.

I never had stones. It can be an infection. The lining of my gallbladder was thickened. When you have an attack you need to go to hospital at the time for bloods to be taken. They will show if it an a gallbladder issue or not.

The problem with leaving it is if the infection moves to other organs which can be fatal.

Ive heard that apple cider vinegar helps and there is a Dr Berg on youtube who is informative
