To kill the owl babies?

I've been on the go since 6am.
There are 3 of the cute little buggers, sat on the corner of our bedroom (dormer) window, cheeping away.
About once every 40 mins their DM brings them something to eat and they turn up the cheeping to full on party mode. It's like trying to sleep with a load of satanic chickens in the room.
AIBU to get the air rifle and shoot them dead? I could have them stuffed to make cute Christmas decorations or something, could send them to Chris Packham as a warning to other owls.

Awwww, baby owls ! 🦉.
Live in a coastal town so have got used to the bastard seagulls now but whenever someone comes and stays they can't believe the noise they make and why it doesn't bother me. Agree with the tag team seagulls and wood pigeons Grin

MitziK · 01/08/2020 05:31

Just had a couple of shytehawks yapping to one another and some crowd sharing a joke.

I'm now considering whether the DTwatCat #2 might make a fluffy hat for winter as the bastarding animal has followed me up to bed silently and, as I laid down beside the softly snoring DP who has commandeered 98.6% of the bed, having literally not slept all night because of the heat, decided to announce her presence by running her soft, fluffy tail along the backs of my thighs.

I hate everybody and everything except owls right now. And I'm jealous of those fuckers as they'll be asleep by now.

MitziK · 01/08/2020 05:32

Not crowd. Crows.

I hate auto correct, too.

JamesArthursEyelashes · 01/08/2020 05:37

Unfortunately they sleep in their tummies, which is literally the most adorable thing in the world

That is too cute. 🦉

Feetupteashot · 01/08/2020 05:51

Photo please! Imagining scruffy balls of fluff

I'd take it over OH snoring

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 01/08/2020 06:02

the wood pigeons are so loud

but owl babies,
i thought you had the book!

how cute

cosmo30 · 01/08/2020 06:08

Apparently they sleep on their tummy as their heads are too heavy to hold up, too cute

Pesimistic · 01/08/2020 06:11

No you cant kill them ! I had crows nesting in my eaves this spring, they were annoying but also cute as you hear them mature from babies to little crows!! Then they left so only a few months of 5am wake ups.

justilou1 · 01/08/2020 06:14

Yes... You absolutely should kill these mudery bastards. Definitely plotting your demise. You’re not mad at all!

I'll take your owlets if you take my black birds and the alarm call the mum makes for hours every evening then they're all pissing about from 4am having breakfast.

I agree with an earlier poster. If you kill Bill the others may chill out he's super annoying.

Heartlake · 01/08/2020 06:28

Aww Sarah, Percy and Bill! They have names. So no, you can't kill them.

TW2013 · 01/08/2020 06:28

I thought this was about the book too. You would have my blessing as this was once a favourite in this house and Bill's whining wore very thin when requested every night. Unfortunately dh quite liked it so never managed to hide it for long.

Real babies sound cute, though having sparrows in the loft you have my sympathy. Saw that one person got them watching TV maybe that will keep them quiet. globalnews.ca/news/6973287/giant-owl-hatchlings-watch-tv/

VoldemortsKitten · 01/08/2020 06:45

Also thought you meant the book! I had to read it every night for almost 2 years so had some sympathy there, I still use my special whiny toddler voice for Bill's 'I want my mummy' on certain occasions 😬😬 just looking at his face brings back some rage.

@justilou1 that one in the hat though ❤️ 🦉

I thought exactly the same and that she was killing Sarah ad Percy and Bill. And my youngest DC is 19!!!!!!! I did know it off by heart-including page breaks so I could shut my eyes whilst reading it!!
cariadlet · 01/08/2020 07:14

I'm another one with seagulls nesting on the roof. In my case, they tag team with the magpies. We have the worst dawn chorus you can imagine.

I'm sure that there's also a pigeon nesting in a tree in next doors back garden, the tree that's right next to our fence and very close to the houses. It flies right past the window to get to the tree and I've never heard such noisy wings.

The fun and games start about 4 in the morning round here.

minipilling · 01/08/2020 07:28

Grown owls tend to scare me a bit (like a lot of large birds) but I like baby ones. I was at a convention a few years ago and a local sanctuary was there so you could pet the little owls. So sweet!

I once saw a really scary adult one at the birds of prey show at Warwick Castle though. It kept looking at me. Don't know if that or the vulture was worse!

minipilling · 01/08/2020 07:31

Weirdly just looked up the vulture and saw it recently escaped from the castle! It's back now though. www.stratford-herald.com/110639-warwick-castle-welcomes-back-escaped-vulture.html

bibbitybobbitycats · 01/08/2020 07:35

Awwww, you can't, you know you can't. I have sparrows nesting in the eaves each summer and they are NOISY. But I love them anyway.

The seagull and wood pigeons tag team made me laugh Sabrina. Wood pigeons are so clumsy I'm amazed they can fly.

Jarli · 01/08/2020 07:37

Feeling you pain OP. We have three babies too. And a maternity roost of bats we suspect the two are related

Our starlings have fledged though. And the baby foxes appear to have gained some manners.

bibbitybobbitycats · 01/08/2020 07:37

minipilling that vulture does not look at all pleased.

felixowl · 01/08/2020 07:40

They ascribe wisdom to owls in mythology.

BeyondMyWits · 01/08/2020 07:43

my neighbour has pigeons nesting under their solar panels - right above their bedroom - OMG the noise is unbelievable!

Little owlets would be worth it - pigeons not so much!

SabrinaThwaite · 01/08/2020 07:45

@bibbitybobbitycats

We have a one legged wood pigeon too. He has to get a bit of a sideways lean on before he can take off.
