AIBU to think my hips and joints are all achey due to the mentalpause?

Hi, Over the last few weeks my hips have become all stiff and achey, and also my hands, knuckles, elbows etc. Can't do any exercise, have to pay Dd to walk the dog etc.
Do you guys think it's the big 'M'?
I am nearly 50 and have no other symptoms. Cheers!

I love the idea of a mentalpause. I think I've been in one for the past 20 years.

painandmorepain · 31/07/2020 23:31

No that is not to be expected at 50 and should be investigated/bloods taken etc. Rule out RA, PMR etc etc.

Pepperwort · 31/07/2020 23:31

Is this another symptom? I've been getting that for the last week or two.
"mentalpause" Grin

Pepperwort · 31/07/2020 23:32

Having re-read, not so stiff that I can't walk. Second the idea of getting it checked.

justasking111 · 31/07/2020 23:36

Please get this checked out. Menopause did not do that to me nor anyone I know.

justasking111 · 31/07/2020 23:38

Are you working from home spending a lot of time sat at a desk using a computer?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 31/07/2020 23:40

I get sore and stiff joints when my vit d is low. I am also 50. Get it checked out by your GP.

littlefireseverywhere · 31/07/2020 23:45

I have stiff knees, your joints do get a achey during menopause due to lower oestrogen levels. Spoke to dr few months ago about this. She said lose weight if applicable ( is in my case) keep exercising & im taking vitamin supplements.

Suze1621 · 31/07/2020 23:46

Actually I did suffer really stiff and achey joints associated with the menopause, so much so I struggled physically getting up and out of bed some mornings. I was prescribed HRT which really helped and having come out the other side I am not on any medication and am fit and active.

Sarahlou63 · 31/07/2020 23:49

Yes, it’s a definite menopause symptom. My hips, knees and joints ached terribly on and off for years.

JaneJeffer · 31/07/2020 23:54

Try CBD oil.

FortunesFave · 31/07/2020 23:54

I am 47 and over the past few months my knees, wrists and elbows are all stiff and sore too. Like you, this is the only possible symptom of menopause so I considered it to be the onset of perimenopause.

I have thought about getting blood tests done but I can still do my daily tasks etc...it's not debilitating as such. A bath sorts it out usually.

I would go to the doctor OP because not being able to walk the dog sounds severe.

I’ve noticed my ankles and fingers are particularly stiff since hitting 50. Defo peri.

Apparently it doesn’t get any better. Great Shock

rosiejaune · 01/08/2020 02:04

Try supplementing vitamin K2.

Topseyt · 01/08/2020 02:25

I like the term mentalpause! Far more apt than menopause. Grin

famousforwrongreason · 01/08/2020 02:32

I've always had joint pain but it's definitely worsened this year. I'm nearly fifty but seem to have become perimenopausal around 35. My periods started at 9 so I wonder if I will finish earlier!
Also baain is much worse around my period

Hollyhobbi · 01/08/2020 02:52

Get your bloods checked especially VitD, calcium and vitB12.

pawpawpawpaw · 01/08/2020 03:37

OP is it all your joints or just here and there? I'm 52, have some meno symptoms (neverending bleeding, low mood), inflammation markers are fine.
Started with back and hip pain, then plantar fasciitis on the right, tennis elbow on the left, now twinges in left knee for the first time in my life. Hard to know if it might be related to change in gait from the back pain. Idk why they won't just put me on hrt patches ffs. Also getting the absolute rage which I understand is a symptom.

Durgasarrow · 01/08/2020 03:41

I had hip and joint pain, but it turned out to be because I had an autoinflammatory disease that could be treated by a rheumatologist and the treatment has changed my life--so do get it checked out!

Aquamarine1029 · 01/08/2020 04:18

Aching joints is a very common symptom of peri-menopause/menopause. Go see your doctor.

Somanysocks · 01/08/2020 08:47

Your dd won't walk the dog or help out without being paid?

Rubychard · 01/08/2020 09:38

I'm 49 and also have this, mainly in my right hand. Have had it for about 4 years. Am now menopausal now, had last period about a year ago. Tested negative for RA / OA etc. I find magnesium supplements help.

UntamedWisteria · 01/08/2020 09:53

Yes. I used to wake up in the morning with aching joints & stiffness, although not as bad as you describe.

I started HRT at 52 and they completely went away. HRT is very safe and studies show it can prolong your life.

Go and see your doctor, or a menopause specialist - and look on the menopause board here where there is loads of good advice.

Chootchoot · 01/08/2020 10:51

Thanks for your replies people, helpful to know. Am awaiting blood test results and quaffing loads of vitamins.
And yes, I have to pay DD to walk dog because dog is a HUGE PITA with anyone else but me.

I have been getting increasing pain in knee hips and shoulder over the last couple of years. About 2 weeks ago i fell and bruised/broke a rib and have been having trouble sleeping in my usual position. I found it easier to use 2 pillows instead on one, and to have an extra pillow at my side to rest upper arm on. Since then all the other pains have vanished and not come back. Maybe worth a try.
