Missing first week of new term after holiday quarantine?

We've got France booked Tues 25th Aug for a week. Due back the following Tues. Obviously at the moment, you can still go to France and come home without having to quarantine, but things look like they're changing rapidly. If that happened, the 2 week quarantine would overlap with the kids first week back at school. WIBU to still go and take the risk... and keep them off school that first week, when they're unlikely to be learning much new anyway?

If you have to quarantine when you return would it make sense to book a covid test so that you get the results back the day before school starts? Then you wouldn't have to finish the quarantine as you would know you were negative (or positive in which case they wouldn't go to school).

no one will prosecute for this. So many uncertainties. I doubt that I would factor maybe-quarantine into my decision making .

I missed the first few days of school once due to my parents taking us on holiday.
It was an awful year socially... everyone established friendships and where they sat in lessons so I spent a long time sitting on my own.

Of course if LOTS of children are in a similar situation then it might be OK. And your children might not be as socially inept as I was. And school might not even open... but also France might close!!!

We're in the same position -holiday originally booked in Jan for just after results day. One of mine is starting a new school and has said the she might not come and stay with grandparents. I'm concerned about the other DC missing the start of term but if there's no actual quarantine we may risk it. Definitely wouldn't go if we weren't insured.

Suspect that France will go one way or he other though before we're due to go.
