To be annoyed that there are no breastfeeding clothes that are not also maternity

I can't seem to find any! DS is 3 months and exclusively breastfed. Nothing fits! Nothing! My pre-pregnancy clothes don't fit well enough to have boob access, my maternity clothes are all too big and any breastfeeding clothes I try to buy just fit hideously because they're made with about 4 extra yards of fabric to accommodate a bump which doesn't exist! I'm sick of feeling so frumpy! I've always loved clothes and feeling stylish and well put together but it seems of I want to breastfeed the only options are get completely undressed everytime I need to feed or look like a slightly deflated whale!

I also did one up-one down with a thin vest underneath my regular top. On warm days, like today, I just wore two vest tops so I could lift one and drop the other.

JanewaysBun · 31/07/2020 12:45

I totally agree!!!
I am 10 months in and lovely to wear clothes that are fitted/not stretchy. I find the H and M feeding tops are way too massive on my tummy and I feel like I'm wearing clothes that don't fit.

If there are "feeding' tops they're normally too stretchy and baggy so not my style at all.

My DH gets really embarrassed when I get my boob all the way out too (I know I know!) So just want stylish nice clothes!

H and M do non-pregnancy nursing clothes (as well as some pregnancy clothes that can be used after for nursing).

Soph88888 · 31/07/2020 12:45

I agree ! Why is 'maternity and nursing' a thing? It seems to cater to a very small group who are pregnant but also breastfeeding.. really this must be a minority! Either that or the clothes are designed for the days immediately after birth before your uterus contracts. But highly doubt most people would be out and about those days anyway

gcec · 31/07/2020 12:50

I also wore a vest under everything. If I wanted to wear a dress then I wore leggings and vest under so I could still lift the dress.

MissKittyFantastico84 · 31/07/2020 12:51

Try Monki! They do loads of dungarees and button down dresses in loose but funky styles. Got loads of BF friendly stuff!

BoomyBooms · 31/07/2020 12:58

It's all shit. Maternity clothes are shit in general. I was so frustrated at the amount of frumpy boring crap I had to wear when pregnant, let alone when looking for breastfeeding clothes too.

Have you found the FB group 'can I breastfeed in it?' might be worth a look. But again, depends on whether your sense of style matches theirs.

liklypaddy · 31/07/2020 12:59

I honestly wouldn't bother. Just wear a regular Tshirt with a strappy vest under Smile

RuggerHug · 31/07/2020 13:01

I was able to get loads from new look and I think next a couple of years ago, might be worth checking their sites.

monkeysox · 31/07/2020 13:05

Stick a vest top on under normal top. Pull vest down when pull top up.

DianaT1969 · 31/07/2020 13:05

I'm surprised that Bravissimo's Pepperberry collection don't fit OP. They are designed for larger busts and feature lots of crossover styles and many in jersey. But I'm sure that's the first place you looked.

pipnchops · 31/07/2020 13:07

I really wish I hadn't wasted so much money on breastfeeding clothes as with DC2 I finally realised you can just wear normal clothes with a vest top underneath and whatever top you want on top. When you need to feed, lift up normal top, pull down vest top and voila.

mooity · 31/07/2020 13:08

Agree with others. The Can I breastfed in it Website is great. The FB page is really useful too as everyone posts pictures of things they find so you get a wide range of styles. For cheaper breastfeeding friendly clothes try TU at Sainsbury’s and online. Some lovely and very wearable clothes there. Just finished feeding number 3 and I still find myself looking for clothes with easy access so it does become second nature once you know what to look for!

Peabody25 · 31/07/2020 13:10

H&M have got loads if you do a search for nursing, rather than just checking the maternity section. Some lovely looking dresses and tops.

Oysterbabe · 31/07/2020 13:13

I just wear normal clothes. I've found I can breastfeed in loads of different things. You can't beat a simple v-neck. You can tuck a muslin into your bra strap to cover the bulk of your breast if you worry about that kind of thing.

It is one of life's mysteries why so many clothes exist for that, surely tiny, market of women who are both breastfeeding and heavily pregnant.

Megzmoo · 31/07/2020 13:15

I bought these from h and m, they are brilliant x

I think the marketers/product designers just assume that women will want multipurpose clothes that they can wear during pregnancy and immediately afterwards when breastfeeding a newborn... perhaps there is an assumption that we won't breastfeed long enough to justify specific breastfeeding clothes without room for a bump?

I doubt very much the clothes are designed specifically for pregnant women still breastfeeding an older child.
