Where to find fossils (ammonites) ?

Do you still find them easily on CHARMOUTH/Lyme Regis beaches? It’s a 4 hour drive from where we are!
Are there any beaches around Kent with ammonite fossils?

We found a couple on Charmouth but not Lyme Regis. To be fair, the kids gave up quite quickly and the ones they found were when they weren't actually looking but just playing.

You can book (or maybe not at the moment) fossil tours and walks to find them. If I had known you have to book in advance, I would have done so (we only went for a short stay and all fully booked weeks in advance).

Yes to Kent! We always find loads at Folkestone, you just sift through the shingle at the base of the grey clay cliffs. Ammonites, bivalves, curly shell things and even the occasional shark tooth. Also lots of lovely smooth sea glass. When we go we park on one of the roads off Wear Bay Road - Foreland Ave, walk past the bowling club on the cliff top and take the path down the cliff. Then when you got the beach turn right, and walk round the headland until you see the low grey cliffs.

Charmouth is great for ammonites. A local advised us to go just after high tide - we found about 4 or 5 each within about half an hour. But yes, kids got bored pretty quickly!

Also if you are local to Kent and like fossils - the beach at Beltinge / Bishopstone is amazing for fossilised shark teeth. It varies how many you can collect but some days we come home with 200!
