I am in a grump as i have workmen outside installing high speed broadband for the whole street.
My house stinks ofc tarmac and road is dug up.
There is nowt wrong with my broadband now although sometimes it drops off at peak times. Why does everything have to be so fast.
Is it worth these noisy workmen disturbing my peace?!
@Bitchinkitchen, we used to get power cuts if it was very windy. As we're almost the highest point for miles around, that's a lot of the time. I got to be a dab hand at finding candles and matches in the dark, and then invested in a couple of headtorches.

Then they built a new substation and we only get very rare and very brief outages now. It was bloody frustrating though.
It's still like that where I used to live. Over ground power cables. We had brown outs at least once a day for over 6 months after a particularly stormy winter and had to endure the best part of 3 working days without power until they finally found the problem.

OO just try and imagine 2 people working from home and homeschooling a couple of DC without it

thepeopleversuswork · 31/07/2020 19:51

er, because millions of people are working from home and need to be able to connect reliably to do so?

My husband thought the people digging up the ground near our house might be putting in fibre optic cable. He was very disappointed when he found that it was something else entirely.

Op, the world and tech moves on and that's a good thing overall. If people weren't constantly pushing on and trying new things, innovations that we take for granted now wouldn't exist. It's what mankind does. Sometimes it's good, sometimes we get it horribly wrong. The internet is here to stay and making it quicker isn't going to make it worse.
