I mean just WHY?! Why don’t you put the price in the advert? Why? I just don’t get it. It annoys me to the point that, even if I was interested in the product, I would not message the seller for price if my life depended on it 🤬 I want to know upfront so I can decide whether it looks like a good deal, without the hassle of hanging around waiting for the seller to deign to respond.

So...can anyone give a rationale behind this irritating nonsense? Mostly ascribed to products of low worth so WTF?

Message me for the answer Grin

MaryBerrysChutney · 31/07/2020 08:35

It is the most bonkers thing ever!! Our local group has banned sellers who won’t be upfront about price and suddenly all the “DM for price” sellers are now being open about it!

SoddingWeddings · 31/07/2020 08:36

@JudgeRindersMinder😁

I agree OP. I always assume it means they are deluded as to the item's value.

Madmoxxi · 31/07/2020 08:37

I have the same feeling about job adverts that don't state hours and wage.

Lockdownseperation · 31/07/2020 08:38

I agree.

I live in Town A and the rules of babies and children selling site I use is collection must be from Town A or delivery available to Town A. I get annoyed at the number of people who after you have agreed to buy something say collection is 10plus miles away from
Town A. Sell it on your own local selling site.

Isthisfinallyit · 31/07/2020 08:39

I never message those because I think they will ask too much anyway.

MrMeSeeks · 31/07/2020 08:40

I agree i won’t even bother if it says this.
I always just assume they may give diff prices to diff people.

Vivana · 31/07/2020 09:08

Totally agree its ridiculous so I wont even bother sending them a message of you get the ones offer a price is annoying to.

Bandia · 31/07/2020 09:12

I think it's because the price they want has no bearing on reality, or they want to see how much interest there is and inflate the price accordingly. I recently did dm for price and it was 3 times the price of similar items.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 31/07/2020 09:14

“Make me an offer”.

No. Everyone else is doing clothing bundles for £10. I can’t be arsed with ping-pong messages where you whine “but it’s from next”. Just state the bloody price.

Same for job ads too. Competitive is code for “as low as we can go but we expected you to be excited anyway”.

mylittlesandwich · 31/07/2020 09:15

The most annoying is it's listed as free then in the description in capital letters. THIS IS NOT FREE DM FOR PRICE. Just put the price on it. Make me an offer is another one. In the region of what? At least give me a clue.

Twigletfairy · 31/07/2020 09:17

On the rare occasions I have messaged for the price, I have found them to be way overpriced.

My reasoning is that they know they are asking more than what most people pay. And only people that really want it will go to the effort of messaging to ask for the price. And if they really want it, they're more likely to pay the inflated price

Yesyoudoknowme · 31/07/2020 09:18

YADNBU - this drives me nuts too! I have, on occasion, put that comment on the post too. It's like "job" adverts on there - they never say what it is or the hours or wages - so you KNOW it is going to be dodgy. I think we should start a campaign - to post a 'why not put the price in the ad' comment.

GreatestShowUnicorn · 31/07/2020 09:21

I hate this any time I’ve messaged a seller who has this they then wanted me to suggest a price 🤬🤬🤬

HouchinBawbags · 31/07/2020 09:23

I tend to message the seller and then post their reply on the main post. Saves other people the aggro and annoys the seller.

Notredamn · 31/07/2020 09:23

Same reason high end shops don't display their prices. Expensive! But FB isn't a high end store. If I was looking to spend proper money I wouldn't be browsing for a second hand bargain on social media.

hibbledobble · 31/07/2020 09:31

It works both ways. I have posted items, and get offers. It's a fixed price, not 'nearest offer'. I made sure to price competitively and got lots interested at the price, but also lots of cheeky so and sos.

ClaudiaWankleman · 31/07/2020 09:32

I assume they look at where you live, what you look like and any other public information on your profile and give you a price depending on how rich and stupid they imagine you are.

HappenstanceMarmite · 31/07/2020 09:34

Wow! I feel vindicated! Agree with PPs who mentioned the “make me an offer” morons. Here’s an offer...I offer to shove your precious object up your deluded arse! 😂

OP posts:
Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 31/07/2020 09:35

I totally agree with you all...I also would add to the list the "can you deliver?" when it states colletion only! or the "can I come tomorrow will you save it for me?" then no shows...all of it drives me mad.Just can;t be doing with it.I bundle it up and take it to the charity shop now its easier!

burnoutbabe · 31/07/2020 09:36

Indeed, I am selling law books on a law forum and I always put price plus postage (or collection only for old heavy books)
Tons of people puts up 15 books and say message for prices. Like they is too much effort! It's law books, not priceless object'da!

Zhampagne · 31/07/2020 09:37

I think Facebook automatically fills this in if the seller forgets to include a price. That's all.

HappenstanceMarmite · 31/07/2020 09:42

JudgeRindersMinder

Message me for the answer

That’s the first time I’ve seen that phrase and smiled 😁

Another thing I gong very cheeky is in Scotland we can apply for a free baby box. It's got loads of great things in it but it's FREE. The number of times I've seen people trying to sell things from it.

mylittlesandwich · 31/07/2020 10:09

I find not I gong.
