DP has choice of dentures or implants. He's chosen implants and some other work on his few remaining teeth. He needs something, he barely has any teeth and struggles to chew food.
Prob is, this is a lot of money to us. We had saved up this money for a dream hol with the kids 2021/22.
I wouldn't spend this amount of family money on myself. I'd love to! Would love some cosmetic surgery, but think it should be spent on the family.
However, I do understand DP's feelings. Also understand that if NHS wasn't free, we'd be spending a ton of money on my medical needs.

Yes - he needs this and should have it
No - get some good quality dentures and treat the kids (in the future)

I think it costs more £5000 in Turkey. My friend had 4 tooth implants the rest veneers her DH had a fullset of implants they paid €17000 in Turkey afaik.

Poland looks better value. I'd love them.
Do they last forever?

Teeth are really important for self esteem. A violent ex knocked a front tooth out in my early 20s and when the resulting crown gave up a couple of decades later NHS dentists where really not interested and I ended up with a small denture which was soul destroying. As it happened I lost it just before a trip to bulgaria and whilst there for the week an amazing local dentist built a bridge in my mouth and I have subsequently gone back for an implant.

This was not a tourist dentist, just in the biggest town next to where we were staying. His English was excellent, the practice was far more advanced than here in the UK. In conversation he said he was more than qualified to work in the UK but the state of dentistry put him off. To get a bridge there and then was £50, and he did it because I was so self conscious I did not want to wait. He even provided a receipt for me to reclaim on my hospital plan.

@willstarttomorrow That sounds amazing! I'd love two implants where I'm missing eye teeth on both sides. Been quoted 8k in the UK though, which seems poor value given I paid 12k for a full Superpath total hip replacement.

I think also need to consider how hard this has been for your husband to get to this state. I know I had amazing teeth as a child, always went to the dentist every 6 months. But as soon as I was 18 I just could not afford it and I then became too embarrassed to go following having a tooth knocked out and a rather nasty dentist at the time. That crown cost me far more money than I had as a nursing student.

@thenightsky he was in razlog. Just googled him as we were in Bansko and he gave me an appointment and made my summer! He is a local dentist, not advertising to make money from tourists. He was also rather attractive!

The technology for implants is the same wherever you have them done. Best practice is full assessment with CT scan before treatment planning. Use of top quality implants ( yes you can get cheap Chinese ones like everything you get what you pay for) and yearly reviews with regular hygiene visits.
Implants can fail due to peri implantitis which is the same as gum disease. If you have lost teeth due to gum disease your implants will be at the same risk. A good implantologist will insist on a high level of oral hygiene prior to placing implants. They will refuse to treat you if they don’t. Think you can look after them. If an implantologist is happy to start treatment the day after your initial appointment walk away.
It may be cheaper to go abroad but only if you are happy to return every year for reviews and problems.

Angrymum22 gives good advice. I've had my implants about 10 yrs. I need to see the hygienist every 3 months & checks up twice a year. My opinion is that going abroad is false economy unless it is somewhere you travel to regularly.
