eBay buyer hasn’t paid

Hi,

Not sure where to post this but just need advise.
My husband and I have sold something on eBay, and sent the parcel off on the day it sold. Had no issues with the seller giving us his details, he said it was a business account, his PayPal and everything seemed legit. My husband has sold lots of things on eBay before and never has issues.
Anyway the parcel got sent off and then we received information of PayPal about it being a scam, and that the man we’ve sent our parcel to is a scammer and that it’s not a legit account ?
My husband sent numerous messages to the man who kept on saying ‘I will pay bu X time, I will pay soon’ etc . I got fed up and sent him a message myself saying we have a baby on the way (due next month), we have been selling things to get a bit more money behind us, not necessary but we don’t use some of the things we sold so they were just taking up room. He then sent me messages apologising , saying please don’t involve the police (?!) and he’s going to send the parcel back to us unopened by Thursday (today) . So evidently he can’t afford to pay it or he has something to hide. He rang me and begged me not to call the police or to take it any further . I have it all documented .
If we don’t receive the parcel (which I have a feeling we won’t) , where do we stand ?
I know we’ve not paid for something and not received it so we haven’t technically lost money but we’ve lost an item worth over £100 and paid for special delivery etc so we’ve lost out in a sense.

Coming to MN for wise advise !
Thanks

Sorry you have been scammed. It's hard to trust people these days. You don't even know where they are even from sometimes.

Go to the Police. You don’t know this man, you owe him nothing. He’s probably shitting his pants and so he should. I bet he’s done this to lots of other people. We had someone try this to us over an iPhone and it took something like three months to get the money back through PayPal, was so frustrating. When I checked his account he was known for it and his reviews all said the same thing eg ‘avoid’ ‘conman’

I’ve contacted the police , thank you everyone x

Was the payment made through eBay or did you give the guy your PayPal directly?

Never ever give anyone on your PayPal on eBay directly, insist they do it through eBay as they then have to pay through the website and never actually see your PayPal details. Ebay holds the funds on your PayPal and releases them once you provide a tracking number for dispatch.

Depending on the type of postage you used I think if they had to sign for it it gives you a little more protection when involving the police.
