to ask if it's really easier in reusables?

Not an AIBU really but just posting for traffic - I've heard that it's easier to potty train a toddler who's in reusable nappies at a young age, as they feel wetter than disposables. Is there any truth in that?

No not in my experience (I tried both).

If you use a fleece liner in my experience their bottom is drier than some disposables.

I couldn’t say if that were true or not, but mine were all continent in the day by 2 years.

Night time was another story...

Probably depends on lots of things.
DS1 has really sensitive skin and was dry in the day just after 2 because he'd take his disposable nappy off as soon as he'd done one wee. I'm not sure he would have had the bladder control any earlier if he was in reusable nappies.

Well the washing of reusables certainly was good reason to take them off and let them run naked as much as possible. Part of the history of earlier tt has to do with the hassle of it all.

Definitely true for me - 4 kids, 3 in full time cloth at potty training, 1 not. 3 totally potty trained in days at between 24 and 26 months. And 1 not properly potty trained at 3...

In my experience my toddler was a bit more keen to wee in her pants as a result of wearing reusables- sure mummy always washes my nappy after I wee, she can do the same with my pants 🤦‍♀️

FudgeBrownie2019 · 28/07/2020 15:30

One of mine used disposables, the other reusables. Both trained fairly quickly and easily, I think that was more about when and how we did it than about their nappy type.

I've had 2 in disposables and 2 in reusables, and children in reusable groups do tend to get their DCs toilet trained earlier, and my experience bears it out too.
For us it was a combination of DCs feeling slightly more uncomfortable in nappies, us being less put off by having to wash up accidents than parents who aren't used to dealing with anything soiled, and DH and i who really didn't want to bother with the washing!
