If I wanted to say the members of the companys experiences (clunky I know but it's an example)...multiple members, one company, the 'experiences' are the object

Would I write

 1. the member's of the company's experiences
 1. The member's of the company's experiences
 1. The members of the company's experiences

Thanks in advance
@Redyellowpink Understanding apostrophes is pretty basic grammar so if it's for a PhD you do need to get your act together.

Buy yourself a copy of Lynne Truss' Eats, Shoots and Leaves.
Don’t be so rude. OP is asking for help. There is no reason why being of doctoral standard means she must be a grammar whizz anyway. You don’t know her subject or various other things about her.

Redyellowpink · 28/07/2020 11:34

@Dozer I also laughed at that! Haha one can only hope

@ArriettyJones thanks for the support. I also thought that was a little OTT and entirely without context Hmm

I don't think apostrophes are quite in the category of grammar whiz, aren't they taught at primary school?

ArriettyJones · 28/07/2020 11:44

Nobody remembers everything they were taught in primary school @lifesalongsong

Aptitude is a large part of it. I don’t remember a single word of French or German. DH can’t remember long division. Everyone is different.

The OPis doing a PhD, she's been in education for at least 20 years all of which have presumably involved written English, your examples don't really apply.

But you're right that everyone is different, I know that the decline in basic literacy isn't something that everyone is bothered about. And to be clear that's an extension of the current discussion not aimed at the OP

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 28/07/2020 12:43

The OP’s thesis is actually based on the hypothesis that users of social media have poor grammar skills.

I wonder what response she received from Netmums!

JinglingHellsBells · 28/07/2020 13:12

How does everyone know what her PhD is on? Looking at back threads?

Oh dear.

Many people ignore 'perfect' literacy on social media- they just bash it out.

Unless of course the topic is that social media has replaced writing 'properly' in the form of letters.
