What’s the trick for spiders? Have just got into bed, looked up at ceiling and saw 6 eyes and 8 legs looking down on me.

We are currently in a stand off as to who will move first.

Although if he falls on to the bed I just don’t know what I will do.

You know those fine mesh cloches you can buy to cover food left out on a table/work surface? See if you can buy giant ones to fully fit over the bed so you can sleep unmolested! 😁

Actually usually not too bad with spiders however last night I was shattered and when I saw it lying in bed it was right over m.

Moved bed slightly and burrowed under a duvet so that it couldn’t get in. Then panicked when I woke up and couldn’t see it. He has now moved away from the bed and in the cold light of day doesn’t look too bad.

Thank you SOME OF YOU for suggestions and sympathies.

Smile

@SkiingIsHeaven

Wear a your face mask to make sure it doesn't crawl in your mouth when you fall asleep.
JUST for a moment there I thought you meant a nice moisturising face mask... 🤣

Those saying OP is dramatic or "it won't hurt you" type comments obviously don't understand what a phobia is

Oh I think they do. I think they know exactly what it is, they just can't resist the opportunity to stick the boot in. Arachnophobia is hardly unknown.

SweetPetrichor · 28/07/2020 13:33

There are no dangerous spiders in the UK. Even if one did come and give you a nibble you'd be none the worse for wear.

I'd give another vote to holding a tarantula if you ever get the chance. I was so scared of spiders I'd run and cry. I found them fascinating though and I got the chance to hold a pet jumping spider and then I bought my own tarantula...now I have 26 tarantulas, 2 jumping spiders and 1 ladybird spider. I adore them.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/07/2020 13:40

And if you are an ex racahnophobe you know better than to say that outloud, it doesn't help, only adds to the shame, guilt and sense of inadequacy.

I could wish holding a tarantula had worked for me... but it didn't. I like trantulas. Not sure a jumping spider would find favour though Smile

Actually I have had some nasty reactions to spider bites. My arm has blown up and I needed a course of antihistamines.

As I say, I am normally OK with them - but not near my bed!

Well done OP

DuchessMinnie · 28/07/2020 23:18

Well done @serenada I used to be utterly terrified of spiders but a few years ago I was at our village fair and someone was doing a mini petting zoo with tarantulas and snakes. On the spur of the moment I volunteered to hold Brian, a huge striped tarantula. I have absolutely no idea what made me do it. Since then, similar to a PP, I can deal with smaller spiders ok and I'm not terrified anymore.

Stigsmother · 28/07/2020 23:26

Well done for last night😊 next time just wave a freshly washed pillowcase in front of it.....it won't be able to resist rubbing it's willy on it.
Then shake the pillow out of the door, and wash, disinfect or burn the desecrated linen.
Job done 😂😂

Arachnophobia is not posting lightheartedly on Mumsnet under a spider hanging from your ceiling Grin

That's not really for you go say. Phobias differ in degree.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/07/2020 08:03

Arachnophobia is not posting lightheartedly on Mumsnet under a spider hanging from your ceiling And OP has said she isn't phobic, but other posters are!

And the poor 'ickle spider meme is sweet, but of no use to anyone whose brain freezes at the sight of one! And yes, given the different ways phobias effect people, the meme itself could well have given someone a bump! Nice!

Why is it so hard to understand? Scared of holes? Clowns? Balloons? MN will be nice and kind to you. Spiders? No! You are being stupid and should just grow up and get over yourself!
