Part two of the thread about me changing my name - i've decided to do it. I've never felt more happy at the idea of moving forward Smile
But (hopefully this won't be outing) I'd like to ask your thoughts on which spelling I should choose.
The name I have in mind is Selina/Selena - again, it's connected to my family history, the moon etc. Lovely things Smile
But i'm stuck on the spelling.
YANBU - Selena
YABU - Selina
No right or wrong answer, lighthearted, I just want your thoughts on the spelling, name etc.
I love Selina as I feel it matches my age more (forties) And also has a connection more.
I love Selena because it's easier for people to not write it wrong and I love the spelling but I don't want people to think I'm naming myself after Selena Gomez Blush

Thoughts? Thank you all for your help by the way. Smile

If someone told me their name was Selina I would automatically spell it that way and I prefer it. think you should spell it however you prefer but expect to be correcting people if you chose Selena.

Changinmyname · 27/07/2020 23:48

Surely Selena doesn't sound too young though? I'm starting to prefer it however Smile

How odd, I would totally assume Selina - that is the spelling!

Selena Gomez = spelled differently as not in UK, would be my first thought.

I would think anyone in the UK would think and spell Selina.

FizzyGreenWater · 27/07/2020 23:51

Sorry but Selena looks wrong to me. And no, not nicer - looks as if it should be pronounced Sellen-ah

Davros · 27/07/2020 23:54

One of my best friends is called Selena, we're both 60!

campion · 27/07/2020 23:57

Selina.
That's the usual UK spelling.

You don't want be having to correct /explain spelling as well when you've just changed your name!

yelyah22 · 28/07/2020 00:02

I'm in the UK and I've never heard/seen the spelling Selina, so I'd go with Selena (plus I think it's prettier!)

WitheredfromtheLake · 28/07/2020 03:01

Selena fits better with the name of the moon goddess (Selene).

Bella2020 · 28/07/2020 03:31

Selina is the UK spelling, I think, pronounced Sel - eeen - ah. Selena is Spanish and pronounced Sel - enn- ah. Which pronunciation is the one you associate with? Either way, both very pretty names.

Proudboomer · 28/07/2020 04:57

Depends what goes best with your surname.
I must admit I am not really a fan of either but then that has no relevance as it won’t be my name.

Moonflower12 · 28/07/2020 12:06

Selene is the Goddess of the Moon so I would go with Selena.

captainprincess · 28/07/2020 12:30

Selena Smile

randomchap · 28/07/2020 13:06

If it helps, catwoman's real name is Selina, not Selena.

ClaryFray · 28/07/2020 13:11

I like Selena.

Very pagan, enjoy

SumAndSubstance · 28/07/2020 14:18

Add mo in and you get semolina

That's what I thought too Grin
I also like Selena because it's closer to the Greek Selene.

NameChange84 · 28/07/2020 14:21

Yeah, Selina reminds me of Semolina too!

I really like Selena...the moon, it’s elegant, classy...much prefer it.

Yesyoudoknowme · 28/07/2020 14:21

I would pronounce Selena Sel - ay - na and Selina Sel -een -a - so spell it the way you want it pronounced!

NameChange84 · 28/07/2020 14:22

I pronounce both Sel-ee-nuh btw

PoodleMoth · 28/07/2020 14:59

Selena is lovely, Selina just makes me think Semolina!

Ponoka7 · 28/07/2020 16:15

They're two different names, not different spellings.

I prefer the origin and meaning of Selena. You won't necessarily be correcting the spelling, if you know about Greek mythology, or celestial stuff, you know Selena.

You're certainly not too old.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 28/07/2020 16:16

No idea why but I prefer Selena. Lovely name!

Durgasarrow · 28/07/2020 22:59

Definitely Selena. Selina looks as if it should be be pronounced like vagina.

BikeRunSki · 28/07/2020 23:04

I am of an age that Selina is the glamorous Selina Scott who hosted breakfast TV when it started on the BBC in the early 80s - in a good way!
