AIBU to be annoyed about my new shower?

Hi, I just got a brand new shower plumbed in and the handle is cracked - just a cosmetic ceramic piece but annoying all the same. The plumber said it was like that when they opened the box. I did look at it when it was delivered and I’m sure I’d have noticed that, but it is possible that I just didn’t notice it. If it was cracked when they went to install it I’d have expected them to say something so I could have returned it. As it stands they didn’t say anything, went ahead and installed it, and now I can’t return it. It’s not the end of the world of course, but it does bother me. The shower was over £300. Am I being unreasonable? What would you do? Is it possible to get that little ceramic bit replaced? I think it’s just going to bother me every time I see it now.

Your builders are rubbish. Yes it's cracked and that ruins it.

Their grouting is horrendous. Why haven't they cite the rules properly? It's very very poorly done.

Oblomov20 · 27/07/2020 21:21

Sorry. Why haven't they cut the tiles properly.

Mira are really good for customer service and spare parts. Give them a call.

Notwiththeseknees · 27/07/2020 21:29

That tiling is absolutely horrendous - it is the worst I have ever seen!! I would go crackers if someone tried to pass that off onto me! Haven't they ever tiled a bathroom before?

Kittybythelighthouse · 27/07/2020 21:32

I don’t know what happened with the tiles. I just saw the finish today and I’m 100% aware it’s not right. I have queried it. This is the first time I’ve had anything like this done. It’s our first home. Should I get them to redo the job or get money taken off what is remaining from the quoted cost?

My OH is a plumber and he says that he'd expect that to be taken down and done properly at the 'plumbers' expense - he's shocked that anyone would think that was ok and expect to be paid for it. I have a friend who works for Mira and I know that they have excellent customer service so definitely contact them. Good luck sorting it all

mummymayhem18 · 27/07/2020 21:38

If they can't get it right first time and think it's acceptable to do that kind of job then I wouldn't be letting them put it right, not if it's the same person. They should pay for putting it right and the shower handle as you say you think you would have noticed if it had been cracked beforehand. And then to just go ahead and fit it like that without saying anything is completely incompetent.

honeygirlz · 27/07/2020 21:39

OP, I would get a quote to fix it all and then tell this cowboy that that’s how much you need to knock off the bill.

My sympathies I had a terrible time with our bathroom too.

I’ll share pics of what it should look like tomorrow if no one else has.

Kittybythelighthouse · 27/07/2020 21:44

Thanks everyone. We are completely clueless about this stuff!

My message to them is try again. Their work is shocking. Don’t give them any money or listen to their explanations / excuses / whining (delete as applicable) until they sort things properly

OdaMaeBrown · 27/07/2020 21:52

This whole thing stresses me out and it's not even my shower!

Kittybythelighthouse · 27/07/2020 21:55

Ugh I am extremely stressed about it myself.

When I read your OP I thought it would be a tiny hair like crack.... surely there is no way you wouldn't have notice that crack when you checked it!
They def did it! And def get it replaced! And the tiling sorted too that is awful!!

honeygirlz · 27/07/2020 22:23

Good tiling

Dont pay them anything whatever you do. You pay when the job is done and it is def not! The pipes should go through the tiles not have giant bits of grout. Beyond lazy. If they can't do it just don't pay and get someone else. If you can get the part replaced by the company ASAP you can get the whole thing redone at the same time.

immagic · 27/07/2020 22:38

I agree that judging on the tiling job they've damaged the shower as clearly have no pride.
I'd perhaps give them a chance to put everything right - depending on whether you're confident they can do better based on reviews etc. You need to kick up a fuss though so they know that it has to be done perfect. So cheeky of them to think they can bodge it and get paid.

Kittybythelighthouse · 27/07/2020 22:52

It’s so awkward and uncomfortable. I hate these kind of interactions. My father in law said “They can’t seriously think they are done! Do not pay them. I would sue them” I haven’t even shown you guys the rest of it 🙈🙈

honeygirlz · 27/07/2020 22:56

Show us OP! We’ll get angry on your behalf.

You’re going to be under pressure to pay them the full amount or they will offer to knock a measly £100 off.

Show us pics, tell us how much you’ve been quoted, how much you’ve paid so far.

I’ve been through this so no judging!

OdaMaeBrown · 27/07/2020 23:00

Show us the rest of it.

Aw. Show us, we’ll be cross with them, not you.

Have you said anything to them yet? Have they said anything, like given a reason for any of it?

OdaMaeBrown · 27/07/2020 23:06

Do not pay until it's rectified! Jesus.

Kittybythelighthouse · 27/07/2020 23:06

That’s the downstairs bathroom. The building work elsewhere downstairs was good and neat. We had to pretty much gut the whole downstairs because of flooding, so a lot was done. It’s only that bathroom that’s bad though.

OP posts:
honeygirlz · 27/07/2020 23:07

Definitely a poor job! I wouldn’t trust them to fix it. How much have they charged you?
