Morning all! My trusty Nikes have given up on me and dh said he’d buy me a new proper grown up pair but there’s so much choice!

I’m not a running nut, just 1-2 5k’s per week, any recommendations? Smile

Go to a decent shop and get your gait measured and get a recommendation that way

Peccary · 26/07/2020 09:55

Second gait analysis at specialist shop. If your feet are "normal" Asics or New Balance have seen me through a few miles

Go to a specialist running shop and give some a try on a treadmill is my advice.

Gait analysis using visual judgement in real time is snake oil tbh esp if you're only running relatively short distances. You just need something comfortable. But people somehow think that someone watching you run for five minutes on a treadmill can match you with the perfect pair of shoes.

Depends, I was also sceptical. I've been running for a very long time and it helped me understand there's certain sole shapes I can identify and avoid, which I just used to find out about having bought/run in them

Have a look at the Brooks online gait analysis tool. I used it and then got my gait analysed at a proper shop with a video breakdown and the results were the same. Then tried on many different brands and paid pairs running around the store and found my perfect pair of Brooks. I’d been wearing a ASICS that I’d bought online which were randomly the right shoe but was advised to size up a whole size but once I tried on the Brooks there was no going back. Game changer. Completely forgot I was wearing shoes, felt very stable and light.

My DH used the online tool in lockdown and bought his trainers online, he loves them and has replaced his expensive Nike flyknits. Brooks online offer a three month guarantee if you don’t like the trainers you can send back. They are £££, mind. But I’ve bought my second pair in the sale now I know what to get. Plenty runners swear by New Balance as well.

I like Saucony

ButterboxSpoon · 26/07/2020 11:56

If you liked your previous Nikes I'd go for the Nike Pegasus. Supremely comfortable and perfect for leisure runners.

Is he runs she runs still operating? Our local one closed down.

I need proper wide fit trainers, not just ones that come up a bit wider, but no idea where to start

BunningAndStrave · 26/07/2020 12:43

I love Brooks. I had the Ravenna ones.

R1R2 · 26/07/2020 12:51

New Balance have always been good for me, always best to go to a proper shop and try them but obviously easier said than done in the current climate.

Conversely the Brooks, NB models I've tried don't work for me at all but my feet fit in Mizumo which is really annoying as they are expensive. I usually buy previous seasons on sale which are cheaper. You're going to have to try them on OP to see which shoes work on your feet regardless of gait analysis etc.
