Or is the noise?

There is a noise.
It's a new noise.
Sounds like ds xbox. Or a fan.
Ds is with me, watching a film. Xbox is off.
We dont own a fan .
We have investigated all our electric things. None is making a noise.
Aibu to ask what is this noise?
Where is it coming from?
And how can we get it to stop???
please?
I need some sleep.

Your fridge is on its last legs.
Your toilet cistern has a problem.
Your vibrator has switched on.

TimeWastingButFun · 26/07/2020 00:36

Did next door buy a hot tub? 🙈

CoffeeBeansGalore · 26/07/2020 00:45

Is there a toy buzzing in a bag on a hard floor Or in a cupboard? Fish tank pump? Electric tool (screwdriver or drill) possibly been pushed/squashed & switched on in a tool box? Neighbours bathroom fan?

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 26/07/2020 01:10

Noise has switched up a gear. Now sounds like a Hoover!
None of my neighbours would Hoover at this time of night.
Cant afford a TiVo or a sky box.
Did my main fuse (good idea, thanks)
Still noisy.
Guessing it's a neighbour now.
My poor head. It wants to be asleep

No battery tools or toys either.
Definitely not cistern. We had that a few weeks ago.

You're not near the m4 are you? Roadworks and low hum here.

Fatted · 26/07/2020 01:17

Are you sure the Xbox is definitely off? DH's old one we keep upstairs turns itself on intermittently.

Neighbours might have a fan going?

gamerchick · 26/07/2020 01:25

Have you actually checked your fridge freezer? A bag pushed to the back onto the fan will make a racket

Crystal87 · 26/07/2020 07:09

Xbox fan can turn itself on when it overheats.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 26/07/2020 12:12

I did what a PP suggested and flicked my mains off.
My whole house was silent (apart from dd gentle snores).
No xbox. No fridge freezer. No fan. No toilet water. Could still hear the noise.
Could be a neighbours fan? But it's not exactly warm up here (north england)
Can still hear it now. And so can dd, so I can discount my tinnitus. It's a lower pitch than tinnitus.

Street lights? I used to live somewhere where they were really loud at times.

Thelnebriati · 26/07/2020 12:43

Is it a light bulb? We has one randomly play music at us one night, it made the local news. They buzz just before they die.

Iwantacookie · 26/07/2020 12:53

Is it your fridge? Mine sometimes makes noises like it's about to take off into space

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 26/07/2020 13:09

I think dd has solved it!
Neighbours have got a hot tub!
Does this mean we get the constant noise for the foreseeable future??
So to answer a PP, simply Yes.

Omg OP I’m sorry - that’s going to suck. That low humming noise is what drives me round the bend.
Noise cancelling headphones are your friend here.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 26/07/2020 16:32

Thanks Alex.
Looks like shopping tomorrow for headphones.
Until last night.... we loves these neighbours.
Our kids play together (pre covid)
Been to each other birthday parties. Shared bbq. Done parcels and lawns when one of us is away.
Grrr.
Apart from headphones... what can I do? They are lovely people.

@MyNameHasBeenTaken on the plus side, after Covid is over, your neighbours (whom you're friends with) have a hot tub...

If my neighbour had a hot tub, I'd be inviting myself over for a glass of wine, a chat and a soak Grin

gamerchick · 26/07/2020 20:19

Get some wind chimes. When they complain tell them they're to drown out the noise of their hot tub pump.
