To even think of going abroad?

Bridecilla · 25/07/2020 16:58

We are the laziest holidayers ever. We spent 2 weeks lazing by and playing in the pool in Turkey last year. Utter bliss and did us the world of good as a family.

Usual crap with working full time and a decent commute means family time is stretched so a lazy holiday suits us perfectly

Pretty much accepted not going this year after pricing up UK breaks (had a thread last week- £1400 for a week in a hot tub lodge)

I've spotted a dirt cheap 5 star plus AI in Turkey and we're so tempted. Has anyone been abroad really recently? Would we notice much difference if all we do is pool, meal and drinks usually?

We left the hotel complex once last year to nip to a market - we really are lazy!

@TheSunIsStillShining

Maybe because I hadn’t seen my fiance for 5 months and don’t want to ‘sit on my arse for a summer’ and not see him? Why should I?

I think your name says it all, but maybe that's an insult to mugs.

Iamclearlyamug · 25/07/2020 20:55

😂😂😂 do get a life - just because the rest of us want to get on with ours, don’t get personal about it. People are allowed different opinions

Rollmopsrule · 25/07/2020 21:02

TheSunIsStillShining all the risks you've outlined apply at home in the UK aswell. The virus will be here to stay for a long time. What are you going to do....stay at home and never go out again?

bluebadgehelp101 · 25/07/2020 21:07

@Iamclearlyamug is the hotel still allowing use of air conditioning? I read somewhere Turkey weren't allowing it? Hope you're having a great time!

amusedbush · 25/07/2020 21:08

We’re hoping for a week in Turkey in October. Our annual leave has been booked for ages so we’re going to play it by ear and book much nearer the time.

I’ve read recent reviews of the hotel we want to go to and it looks like they are taking cleanliness/social distancing seriously so I’m not too worried.

Iamclearlyamug · 25/07/2020 21:28

@bluebadgehelp101 it’s allowed where I’m staying, as far as I’m aware there’s no rules against its use - but I’ll ask my fiancé in a bit, he manages a hotel so will know whether there are any restrictions 😊😊

TimeWastingButFun · 25/07/2020 21:33

We haven't booked abroad this year but if we had I wouldn't have minded the quarantine afterwards. Just make sure you have plenty in your cupboards for when you get home just in case, and enjoy the break!

Whatafustercluck · 25/07/2020 21:44

At our overnight stay in Orléans, France on the way to Bergerac. The French are now taking mask wearing extremely seriously, many even wearing them outside. It's worrying that infections are creeping up again here, but we knew the risk and just hope for no regional lockdown where we are. Would we do it again? I'll tell you in 2 weeks.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 25/07/2020 21:51

DO IT!!! I'm in a few Turkey groups on Facebook. They seem to be handling the pandemic really well, I saw an article saying people returning felt safer in Turkey than rhenUK

TellySavalashairbrush · 25/07/2020 22:06

Off to see the in-laws in Italy next week and cannot wait (to have a break, not so much to see the in-lawsGrin. Mask on the plane and in places such as shops, etc. Looking forward to eating in restaurants again too.

Bananabread8 · 25/07/2020 22:20

@BBCONEANDTWO

I didn't know the quarantine was back for Spain?
It is.
Bananabread8 · 25/07/2020 22:22

I’ve booked for early December I’m sure it will get cancelled as it’s long haul! So I’m thinking of Cape Verde back end of Oct/early December time this year.

Fullmoon123 · 25/07/2020 23:37

Thesunisstillshining- numbers 2 and 3 are exactly how I feel. So many people seem relaxed about the whole thing

BogRollBOGOF · 26/07/2020 00:01

If you can manage a financial hit, risk of quarantine from a variable situation and are happy with what's on offer with your destination, go for it Smile

This year we're staying in the UK as we favour a more active type of holiday and aren't enthused by the conditions of flights, but the global tourist industry needs tourists to survive.

My city is facing thousands of redundancies within the supply chain of tourism infrastructure- I know two people facing redundancy. Investment collapsed immediately because of lack of demand.

Bridecilla · 26/07/2020 11:13

@Iamclearlyamug where abouts are you? Are you in a resort?

We were hovered over 'book' yesterday but doubting again today

@Bridecilla I’m on the outskirts of Fethiye in a place called Çalis - it’s further west than Antalya and south of Marmaris and Bodrum, beautiful area but a little quieter than some of the more well known resorts 😊😊 perhaps I’m biased as my husband to be runs a hotel here 😂😂 but I’ve spent time in Antalya so I can compare!

Bridecilla · 26/07/2020 12:09

Thanks @Iamclearlyamug we're looking at Antalya or kusadasi. Looking at weather we could get the cat into the cattery and mulling it over.

I’ve booked to go to Croatia in six weeks, seems a good choice as the country has had few deaths (relatively). Like PP though I’m half expecting it to be cancelled, it’s been cancelled and rebooked once already. I’ve not got insurance but the whole trip has cost about £700 so I’m happy to risk it.

Iamclearlyamug · 26/07/2020 12:12

@Bridecilla Antalya is lovely and the seas are so beautiful there! Ideal for all inclusive as well - I hope you go for it and enjoy!
