Noisy breathing 7 months

Hi all - NC for this.

My DS is 7 months, hes nearly always had noisy breathing or been congested.

But, recently it seems a bit more so, its not wheezy as such or whistling but I can hear every breath and while he's feeding its more so, he's definitely feeding well, lots of wet nappies, overall very happy, content baby.

No temp or anything and so far has never actually had one or been poorly.

We have been to the docs three regarding it over the past 7 months. Once he was admitted (but wasnt for this reason and actually was lied to and test results falsified but that's a different story!) all was fine then, I brought it up to GP at 6 week review and again nothing was mentioned and again at the beginning of covid as he went all mottled and had higher breaths per minute, so its been mentioned but never had a concern nor did his vitals show low or anything.

Is this relatively normal? He's often a little bit tired more than most but definitely doesn't stop him or anything. I'm concerned but I don't want to bring him to the docs if again they say nothing is wrong and I've wasted their time plus potentially exposed to covid..

Any ideas?

Hi OP,

It’s hard to say what’s normal or not without being a medical professional but I always think with babies you can’t be too careful

I think it’s definitely worth going back to the GP (whether in person or a phone appointment) and ask for a referral to a pediatrician.

GP’s / hospital staff now all wear full PPE regardless of why you’re there so you’re unlikely to expose him through going to any appointments.

Definitely don’t ignore your gut instinct; as a Mum it’s rarely wrong

One of my nephews had this Laryngomalacia - basically a floppy windpipe. Normally grow out of it at about 1 year. Can't hear him breathe at all now but it was very noisy for the first 12 months.

@CoffeeNeeded2019 Thank you for your reply! Yes, most definitely feel the same. But, thinking in the same token, if he's already been and tbey aren't concerned am I just sitting and stewing on it? Think I'll call up Monday and see if I can get an appointment and hopefully like you say get a referral. Hoping I don't get brushed off again! Could it be agitation, DH smokes so think it may be that also? It did stop for a while when he did.

@DrManhattan Did he need any special treatment for it? Or just grew out of it? 😊

No treatment at all. Just grew out of it

Whynotdance · 25/07/2020 00:18

I was going to say this - floppy larynx. My son had it, grew out of it, no issues. The drs didn't care at all.

Took my baby to docs for this reason, got told he was fine and it was because he had so much puppy fat round his neck 😂 skinny now, and doesn't snore any more so 👍

GrumpyHoonMain · 25/07/2020 00:33

My DS is a skinny thing except for around his throat and face where he has rolls and rolls of fat and I always assumed it was because of tha. You can hear him breathing a mile off when he’s crawling - he has had a few pediatric appointments but nobody has flagged it as an issue.

Tiggytigert · 25/07/2020 08:57

@Meatshake definitely lots of puppy fat! So may just be this thsts causing it, there is 3 chins!

@GrumpyHoonMain Sounds like my DC! Definitely might just be linked to size as 95th percentile, nice and slender tummy but chunky top and bottom. Docs weren't ever concerned either
