I'm pissed off we pay for BBC world news!

I'm pissed off we pay for BBC World News in UK but can't watch it!

BBC news is terrible - no real world news, just obsessed with talking to people with no actual facts or knowledge (ie, attention seekers) rather than giving us real news from experts or reporting what is actually happening...Feels like 1984 is actually here now.

I think BBC news is toothless these days (although credit to Newsnight and I enjoyed the Andrew Neil interviews last year, shame Boris didn't show as it would been interesting).

I've switched to Sky and Channel4 for day to day news. Channel 4 do a reasonable job of covering world news.

I do presume that many in the current government are keen to dismantle the BBC- I'm not really sure why.

I've enjoyed things like His Dark Materials, line of duty, sewing bee, Car Share and Bitesize was a godsend for my child with learning disabilities so I'm happy to pay our licence fee.

Didn’t ignore it’s all there

Ignoring the BBC news funding model it is sad to say that their quality of output has really gone down over the years. BBC Breakfast is utterly awful, seems to be a focus on human interest stories, dumbed down content and the ghastly concept of sofa news.

I don’t know, but you may want to write more clearly, that’s very badly written

It makes perfect sense and is grammatically correct. Not sure is badly written about it Confused

@DillonPanthersTexas - love the name, am a big fan of Friday Night Lights - I agree BBC Breakfast is drivel (as is GMB). I end up with the radio on but find myself shouting at the Today programme.

If BBC World News uses content from the World Service it has to pay for it just like anyone else would. The public service element of the BBC, funded by licence fee, is strictly separate from the commercial activities of the BBC so that the licence fee cant be used to support/subsidise those commercial activities.

Money is allowed to flow in the other direction though, so BBC World News and BBC Studios can pay the BBC Public Service to use its content (or its facilities/services), and when they make a profit money also flows back to the Public Service as it is the owner and sole shareholder of the commercial companies.

I just find it irritating that I can't listen to it on DAB other than between 1am and 5am. Occasionally ot would be good to have a break from R4, but selecting tworld service in the day defaults to R4

90% of all news, in all outlets, is rehashed from wire services like AP and Reuters.

The BBC subscribes to wire services but also feeds into them, which is why UK broadcasters using wire services like APTN (AP TV News) can’t use footage from their own country because if it’s not their footage it is that of a direct competitor. Some news outlets are wire-reliant. The BBC has its own global network of correspondents which I’d have thought was obvious

nicky7654 · 25/07/2020 09:06

The real news won't be found on any tv news programs. Social Media shows you what's really happening in the world. I refuse to watch the BBC so don't pay the licence. I have learnt more from locals around the world than what the news shows me.

okiedokieme · 25/07/2020 09:06

We don't, they sell advertising

DessieSaysDiy · 25/07/2020 11:19

Crikey yip but no prise for care workers or nurses who have been there throughout. I’m so glad the others got recognised as they should but feel sad for the forgotten.

crikeycrumbsblimey · 25/07/2020 11:27

@DessieSaysDiy

Yes but the BBC did cover it - you said they didn’t. “Silent BBC”

DessieSaysDiy · 25/07/2020 19:15

It should have merited coverage
