To wonder if most diet/fitness experts actually have eating disorders?

Since starting to lose weight myself I have been following various fitness types on social media and have noticed a trend among some of them for posting their daily food intake. Presumably for inspiration. It’s always nicely photographed and large platefuls of healthy stuff. But when you analyse the content, there are rarely any carbs, oceans of salads items and things made from egg-white and chicken. It looks a lot but can’t be more than 1000-1300 calories in my estimation. For people who are working out a lot, how do they maintain their weight? Are they constantly trying to lose? Or does being very tiny mean you can’t afford to eat a muffin or you’ll gain weight?

If anyone follows Cassey Ho on Instagram you’ll have seen there’s been a bit of a fuss over a meal plan she posted yesterday that lots of followers criticised. She’s really tiny but a great pilates teacher which is why I follow her. She has, in the past, written about her past anorexia. Same with Rebecca Louise on Popsugar.

I’ve read that people will eating disorders are more likely to be gym fanatics so I guess it stands to reason that a person fixated on fitness for a living is going to be highly aware of their food intake.

Just makes me wonder sometimes. AIBU to think a lot of these people have underlying disorders which they manage with extreme exercise?

It's a generalisation to say all of them BUT all the ones I know closely are actually not well mentally if I'm honest. They take it to the extreme and it makes me so sad but there will be some that just enjoy the job

Joe Wicks has said his diet is healthy now because as a child growing up his was rubbish. So I think there may well be something in life that shapes their choices.

I think most have at least orthorexia.

Yes. I think the majority of us have a fucked up relationship with food and exercise.

I like Cassey Ho. She is tiny and pilates is great for toning but not a huge calorie burner. I'm not surprised she isn't eating a lot of calories, it won't take many to maintain her frame.

I take your point. I would rather she said that though, instead of presenting her daily food intake as “yes, I really DO eat all this” as though she were laying on a feast when in reality the meals look to be tightly calorie controlled. Lots of people asked her how many calories were in the meals and she got very annoyed!
