Posting on here for traffic, hoping those more IT literate than me (in other words everyone Blush) can help

The situation is that I have a son of 31 with learning difficulties, who's enjoyed playing simple games and puzzles on an ancient desktop PC - not sure what it's running but it was many "editions" before Windows 10, so naturally his CDs are old and now useless

This desktop has died, so I'm taking up a spare laptop of mine which does run Windows 10 ... the problem being finding games for it which can be played offline as he doesn't have an internet connection and doesn't want one. (I can upload the games on mine before giving him the laptop)

I'd be really grateful if anyone can suggest anything, or even where I'd start to look ... what's needed isn't "kill 'em all" or "drive like crazy" games, but snooker, puzzles, simple animations, etc.

Look into Big Fish games, I think they can be downloaded and played offline and some are available on disks

PolarCub · 23/07/2020 14:44

Yes I'd look at Big Fish.
Also look at some of the secondhand places i.e uk.webuy.com/product-detail/?id=5016488113038&categoryName=pc-games&superCatName=gaming&title=1000-games-for-windows

I found this, after a google search.....
www.microsoft.com/en-gb/store/collections/puzzlegames

www.thewindowsclub.com/puzzle-and-trivia-games-windows-10

Would it be worth looking into a secondhand Xbox? My son has an older xbox and you can buy the games quite cheaply

The other thing to look into, is that you can run 2 versions of windows on a computer at once. for example you can have windows 10 and windows XP. It's called a dual boot.
When you start up the machine with a dual boot you just select which windows you wish to boot up in and then use it normally.
A smaller local computer repair place will prob be able to repair your sons old PC, obviously depending what's wrong with it.
If you are local to me I'd be happy to help!

Great ideas so far - thanks, everyone - and while I was vaguely aware of the Microsoft store others are new to me

Only thing is (and as said I'm hopeless with this stuff) I can't tell which can be played offline and which can't. Is there some way of picking these out, or is it a matter of downloading them and then finding out?

Not sure DS would want an xbox, and I certainly didn't know you could run two operating systems on the same computer Shock but his previous one's so ancient that it has a chimney probably won't be worth repairing, and we might as well start again with Windows 10 and be done with it

I've had a little look at the link I gave you to the Microsoft store. I can't tell if they can be played offline or not either! I was going to download some and let you know if they can be, but I run Windows 7 so can't!

I would definitely recommend Big Fish Games - you do need to pay for them. You can get a lot of them on free trial (often you get a limited period of time to play them, then have to get the full version).
A lot of them can be played offline - as I do it!
Look for ones with out 'in app' purchases.

Feel free to message me - am happy to help
