thinking I'm old because I don't know what Facebook is?

I feel so old! My sister (who is only 18 months my junior) has just introduced me to Facebook and it seems the whole world and his dog is on there...including my dp! Does anyone else feel out of touch with the youth of today even though they're relatively young?!?!? Is this what having children does to you? By the way both myself and my partner are 30.

Tsk

I'm on Facebook and I'm nearly 38.

uberalice · 30/09/2007 21:14

Hmm. I decided recently that Facebook wasn't for me, but I've since been sucked in. It's like friendsreunited all over again.

MammaT · 30/09/2007 21:17

zisforzebra - well I didn't want to put myself down but that's the reason I'm reluctant to go on!!! You're right they all look down right, young, gorgeous and like they're at really interesting places... I don't think the local swimming baths quite has the same alure as some beach abroad! I'm sure you only put your best pics on there... must remember not to put one of me on there in my trackie bums, baggy tee and a nursing bra that is also baggy (hmm must get new underwear )!

Although I'm sure if I dug out my old photos I would find some of me looking decidedly slimmer and at some interesting party / holiday. No-one would know they were 10 years old...

popsycal - No I'm not sure what you would do i think just keep track of your friends.

Frayed - it's not that I think it has an age limit just that it makes me feel really old and out of touch with the current trends .

I just need to get wiv' it... that's wot vey say innit?

I'm slightly addicted to it but then you get the old green-eyed feeling when you find a friend on there who didn't invite you to join....

WideWebWitch · 30/09/2007 21:28

I have just become addicted to FB. I will be 41 in a few weeks

ChantillyLace · 30/09/2007 21:30

Im way older than OP and I'm on Facebook and My Space (which incidentally isnt just for the young 'uns). I only go on them in the evenings when dd3 is tucked up, dinner is all eaten and the washing up is done!

I love them cos you get chance to keep in touch with friends old and new when you havent got the time due to working to see them all.

ChantillyLace · 30/09/2007 21:31

Im even older than 41!!

MammaT · 30/09/2007 21:32

I found my partner on there and he didn't even tell me he was on it... although he didn't have a picture on there and has one friend... bless him! He said he couldn't be bothered with it!

MammaT · 30/09/2007 21:34

I can't go on after dinner and all is quiet... I'm usually heading off to bed... in fact I have had many late nights since discovering talk on here about a week and a half ago!

ChantillyLace · 30/09/2007 21:35

lou33 · 30/09/2007 21:36

zippi made me join it a short while go, but i still dont really undertsnad what i am supposed to do with it

Rosylily · 30/09/2007 21:42

I'm a forty year old facebook addict I don't watch tv just sit fiddling on the computer while breast feeding/cuddling children/ignoring the mess!
I am so tied down with young children at this stage it's a great way to socialise and have some company throughout the day.
I play scrabble, throw sheep, play a pirate game, nosy at peoples news, have 3 way conversations with my sisters, keep up to date with my MN clique...in between humdrum housework, what's not to love?

Jennica28 · 22/10/2007 10:46

I'm 30 & have been on facebook for about 5 months.

I have found friends that I'd lost contact with (because of moving, losing address books, hard drive dying, stolen mobile). Life would be wonderful if all my friends had email when I left school but it wasn't a common thing it was only taking off when I was at University

  • bearing in mind I left school in 1995!

I don't go on there to have my ego massaged etc - I go on there to catch up with friends that are no longer in the same area as me. I'd love to go for a coffee for a gossip with one of my friends but she's in New Zealand after emigrating there.

My hard drive recently broke & had it not been for Facebook, I would have lost contact with a lot of email only friends.

So emailing/texting/meeting up isn't a plausible idea if you have none of their current details or more so if they live in another country.

LittleMissNervoustWitch · 22/10/2007 13:35

im on facebook and im 35! hardly the youth of today

Lilymaid · 22/10/2007 13:38

I'm very very old and only have a Facebook entry because of work reasons (Professional networking). I do enjoy peeking at DS's entry and seeing his pages of friends - though he won't let me be his friend!

Lorayn · 22/10/2007 13:41

I was on myspace a year or so ago, and found it great fun, thne I got bored of it, someone convinced me to make a bebo, but the same friends on there were the ones on myspace and then got a facebook, as did DP, he has been able to contact tons of uni friends who he probably would have lost touch with otherwise and I keep in contact with many of my friends on there too, facebook is definitely for the older people whereas bebo/myspace is for the kids. Facebook is for mainly people you already know whereas myspace is mainly for cyber friendships, and posers!

covenhope · 22/10/2007 13:43

I'm on FB and I'm 44

(3 of my friends are my teenage kids though )

Paddlechick666 · 22/10/2007 13:54

I'm on FB and I'm 41. I am an addict!

Being a lone parent it's an ideal way to keep up with my mates from old work places and organisations plus my friends and family who are overseas.

It is cool finding people you've lost touch with over the years.

MrsPuddleduck · 22/10/2007 14:01

Is it an American site?

zippitippitoes · 22/10/2007 14:12

it started for unoiversity students and then opened to everyone..when i posted before i didn't point out i'm fifty..it's handy for being in touch but not making loads of effort lol and just doing fun things too...tho most of my friends on there are young ie about late twenties/thirty except the ones i've made join...tho
