Do I need medical attention?

I have done something really stupid. Was out with a few friends tonight for the first time in forever and had a couple of glasses of wine. Came home and in my slightly tipsy state, I walked into the TV cabinet. My knee was sore and swelling up so thought I best take some ibuprofen, which I did, only to realise I have been such an idiot and taken two one a night sleeping tablets instead. I am now really worried as they are both depressants. I don't know whether I should ring 111 or not.. I have taken two 1 a night sleeping tablets before thinking they were two a night tablets and that was okay but the mix with alcohol is stressing me out. Not sure what to do.

You'll be perfectly OK, you've only taken two! Go to bed, you'll sleep well you lucky thing.

Adarajames · 22/07/2020 01:33

It’s over the counter nytol, not prescription strength opiates, I wouldn’t worry about it (and take far worse combinations of opiates and other sedatives regularly and still don’t bloody well sleep! Angry)

MaleficentsCrow · 22/07/2020 01:42

Braveheart best sleep I had in a long time. Woke up the next day a bit hazy but nothing major. Really dry mouth though I remember

I now regularly mix Zopiclone, phenergan and wine to try and sleep but to no avail 😔.

DisobedientHamster · 22/07/2020 01:50

I wouldn't worry about this at all or call 111.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/07/2020 01:52

You will be perfectly fine. I wouldn't even worry about this.

Iloveyoutothefridgeandback · 22/07/2020 01:58

111 will take an age to answer. You'll probably be sound asleep before they do lol.

MiniEggs234 · 22/07/2020 02:11

To those saying it's perfectly fine and to not worry at all.... Do you have any medical knowledge? I assume not as they are stupid things to say. It is not advisable to combine alcohol with sleeping tablets. Alcohol increases the effects of sleeping tablets such as nytol, and two tablets is obviously a double dose, so will intensify the effects even more. Most likely this will result in a rather long and deep sleep.
However, although unlikely, there can be more severe side effects of this, so not something people should be recommending - especially with no medical knowledge or advice!

OP I hope you are doing ok, although probably fast asleep by now! Did you speak to 111?

HeyHoLetsGoAgain · 22/07/2020 02:12

If you are on here seeking advice rather than calling 111 you are probably OK.
Give them a call any way and good luck.

You probably won’t feel great tomorrow and I wouldn’t drive but you will be fine.

Monty27 · 22/07/2020 03:49

OP just call 111. They'll call you back after a while with medical advice so call them get into bed with water and your phone on. Hope you don't have to work tomorrow Smile
@NoMoreJunk I actually think the literature is quite conflicting when it comes to ibuprofen. Some experts recommend taking it straight away whilst some say wait. I personally have always found it better to take straight away.
So you’re au fait with the medical literature concerning disputes over ibuprofen use, but simultaneously can’t decide on your own whether an extra until tablet requires medical attention? Okay then.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasher86 · 22/07/2020 06:15

You'll be fine. I've taken too many prescription sleeping tablets, and just slept heavily. Woke up fine, not even a little groggy.

mrbob · 22/07/2020 06:25

@NoMoreJunk

Im not to sure about the sleeping pills, but you aren't suppose to take ibuprofen straight after a injury, You should wait 48-72 hours, because swelling in injury is actually a good thing and stopping the swelling, isn't a thing you should be doing straight away
Not true
NoMoreJunk · 22/07/2020 06:34

@mrbob

Really? Well a consultant that told me that must be wrong....
I just googled it too... Here.... ??
