Son was sick in the playground

Was at a local playground today. First time since it's reopened. Son was happy playing and wasn't really interested in other kids. He's 21 months old. He ran over to me for a feed then ran back to the slide. I stood at the bottom and waited f him. He was sick at the top of the slide and another child slid down and got sick on his trousers. It was a tiny amount but still not nice. The child literally slid down a second after he was sick and I couldn't sort it out in time. He's not unwell, I think it was just a mixture of milk and excitement/running around.

Cue child's father swearing and ranting. "Stupid bloody woman" and "are you going to pay my dry cleaning bill" - he was really aggressive and angry and wouldn't accept my apologies. He walked with his kid over to his partner and she also started and said "absolute tramps"

I just scooped my son up and went home and am still feeling a bit meh about it

If you were them, would you have reacted the same?

Oh lord. He overreacted majorly - “dry cleaning” for a toddler’s trousers??! He may be a dick, he may have been stressed about Covid infection and this tipped him over the edge, who knows. But no, not a normal reaction at all.

isabellerossignol · 21/07/2020 17:58

No, because I'm not a dickhead.

Having said that, if I saw a child be sick I would probably be baffled as to why they were at a playpark if they weren't feeling well.

I know it seems that's not the case here, but I'll be honest that it would be my automatic reaction.

Hope he's feeling ok now.

humanz · 21/07/2020 17:59

@EssentialHummus I felt awful but it was an accident and literally happened in a split second. I was very, very apologetic.

I would be a bit disgusted if my son got another child’s sick all over his trousers but I wouldn’t be shouting at the parent about it. Accidents happen, nothing you could have done. Sounds like a big overreaction.

humanz · 21/07/2020 17:59

@isabellerossignol he's absolutely fine. It was literally just a bit of milk and I think I should have given it a bit more time to settle. He's not unwell at all thankfully.

Anotherthink · 21/07/2020 18:00

Very strange. Thought you were going to say he was mad because of the infection risk not dry cleaning.

humanz · 21/07/2020 18:00

@Minai it is pretty gross which is why I was so apologetic. It was fairly mortifying.

OP posts:
Minai · 21/07/2020 18:00

Also, I’ve never come across any child’s trousers that required dry cleaning 🤣

humanz · 21/07/2020 18:00

@Anotherthink no mention at all of covid

Lol who sends their toddlers clothes to the dry cleaners? 😂

Minai · 21/07/2020 18:01

I can imagine, honestly don’t give it a second thought, you apologised and he was a dickhead, you’ve done nothing wrong

humanz · 21/07/2020 18:02

@19lottie82 I was also a bit Hmm

OwlinaTree · 21/07/2020 18:02

Dry cleaning!! Pull the other one, no one dry cleans children's clothes. I hope you didn't give him any money.

It sounds like an accident and he way over reacted, don't worry about it op.

humanz · 21/07/2020 18:03

@OwlinaTree I didn't have any money to give him even if I wanted to!

No I wouldn't react that way, that was completely OTT. Small children do randomly puke/have toilet accidents/get snot everywhere at times and its obviously not done deliberately. You'd have thought other parents may have shown a bit of understanding instead of freaking out. When my son was about 2 he had a freak episode of explosive nappy at soft play, it came out of the back of his nappy and got onto the Cozy Coupe he was playing in. It really wasn't nice, all the other children had to evacuate the area while staff cleaned up, very embarassing but the only comments I got were sympathetic thank goodness.

humanz · 21/07/2020 18:12

I'm glad it's not just me who thinks they were OTT. Didn't think I'd be so shaken by a couple of people shouting at me but everyone was looking at me and I just felt this overwhelming sense of panic and embarrassment.

No I wouldn't react like that, it could happen. My son was sick yesterday outside Asda and I think it was a combination of being fed breast milk before we left, driving to Asda (rear facing car seat) and the heat which made him feel sick. I would totally understand you as a fellow parent and ofcourse you didn't have baby wipes with you that moment, why would you? Some people are dicks. Not sure how old that kid was but I always take spare clothes with me just in case because accidents happen!

humanz · 21/07/2020 18:23

@Newbiehere123 I would have guessed around 2.5 years old, a bit older than my son. I had anti bac wipes in my bag and I did wipe the slide as soon as I got my son off it.

OP posts:
Barbie222 · 21/07/2020 18:24

That seems a bit ott, but I wouldn't have been giving milk just before that kind of physical play if I'm honest. He nipped over for a feed, then straight onto a slide? Maybe best to have snacks that stay down, milk comes back quick especially if you're BF and he's quickly full. Especially on current circumstances I would have been pissed off although not said anything.

Watermelontea · 21/07/2020 18:25

Imagine sending a toddler to a play park, in dry clean only trousers. 😂

humanz · 21/07/2020 18:26

@Barbie222 it's the first time he's been sick from milk in months. He was just so excited as he's not seen a playground for 4 months.

I think it's pretty clear who is in the wrong here, op, and it's not you.

humanz · 21/07/2020 18:27

@Watermelontea to be fair they were all pretty immaculately dressed. Not a bad thing. But I can believe they actually use dry cleaners!

He must be one of those cavemen who doesn't know what that white box with a round window does.
