Social distancing a thing of the past?

To think that we should still be social distancing. I'm so fed up of seeing my Facebook and Instagram full of people taking selfies/photos not social distancing, indoors and with loads of people, one even being heavily pregnant. I feel like most people have given up. I understand it's hard and it's been a long time but it's really not over yet! To top it off I went to Asda today and they've taken away their queuing system to get in and the one way system in store.

I don’t actually know a single person who is still social distancing. School is out and it’s day trips/play dates/BBQ’s all round. I’m absolutely fine with this too. Life has to go on and I’m so confused by what is and isn’t allowed I’ve given up trying to understand.

Mammyloveswine · 20/07/2020 22:31

Agree with @edwinbear! We went to a bbq Saturday and it was lovely! Took my kids to the park today met up with others, was just so nice right see people out and about!

Covid is going away, we practice hygiene like we do with the flu etc...

Mammyloveswine · 20/07/2020 22:31

Covid ISNT going away that should say!

Nicknacky · 20/07/2020 22:32

The one way systems caused more problems than they solved!

Waffleswaffles · 20/07/2020 22:35

What's allowed and what isn't is on www.gov.uk/coronavirus. Very easy to find out. Of course lots of people are social distancing. You can do it and go to the park etc etc

catthatgotthecream · 20/07/2020 22:35

Yes I'm back to work which is non essential and even if we wanted to its impossible to distance behind the counter! No one seems to be anymore.just practice good hand washing.

Wannabangbang · 20/07/2020 22:35

Seems so if some idiot in a shop can breath near me and not keep their distance why should i have to social distance from family!

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/07/2020 22:38

Still social distancing here. I went to a pub on Sunday and everyone was outside at separate tables under a canopy. There was a one way system to get to the toilets or bar. People still stand aside when passing on the pavements, even teenagers who aren't necessarily distancing from each other. Shops still have markers for queuing at 2m.

Burnthurst187 · 20/07/2020 22:39

I've noticed a difference in people's behavior whilst I'm out walking DD in push chair. An increasing number of people seem to make no effort to distance now. Before, two people would walk past me in single file, some now stay side by side so almost touch me as they go past

My local Tesco has removed the one way system and queuing although they monitor how many people are entering. I went to B&M earlier and no queuing and nobody monitoring the door now

At work today not one single person wore a mask. Five weeks ago most were. I think a lot of people have just had enough of it now and think fcuk it

Social distance with strangers, yes, but I think it’s unnecessary to do so with your family/friends/partner (assuming that’s who you’re seeing in the selfies)

But what difference does that make? Presumably your friends and famiky also see other people, who are strangers to you.
Defenbaker · 20/07/2020 22:49

Today's news about the potential for a successful vaccine from Oxford might make some people a bit blase about SD, but I hope people will not get complacent because the vaccine is still a few months away and won't be any use to anyone who's already caught it. I really hope people will be sensible and stay patient for just a few months more - it would be tragic for thousands more to lose their lives when a vaccine is so close. Come on everyone - we can do this!

D4rwin · 20/07/2020 22:50

Yup. The tinfoil hat covid denyers have won out and everyone has forgotten about it.

Sparticle · 20/07/2020 22:51

We’re still socially distancing but I totally agree with you OP - so many of my friends and family are plastering social media with photos of parties and meet ups etc with zero social distancing and I’m afraid it does really annoy me.

Treaclepie19 · 20/07/2020 22:53

No clue about the general public but I've only been to my parents for the first time today and we sat in their garden, at least 2m away. Haven't been anywhere else that hasn't been essential since March.

runbummyrun · 20/07/2020 23:03

And with masks coming into shops this week, people will be worse. They think a mask makes them invincible

The totally contradiction in the rules are you really surprised thou??

Timeforredwine · 20/07/2020 23:05

Same here, since march only essential shopping and seen my parents a couple if times in last two weeks. Really infuriates me how people have no regard for anyone but themselves and do not care about anything over living their normal life. All I want to do is hug my family and get back to normal but have been adhering to all guidelines. I'm not perfect by a long way but how selfish people in England appear to be and what they cant live without doing etc amazes me. Rant over!

In fact it’s the opposite. Most of the outbreaks are going to come from close family / friends were we relax and think we don’t need to protect ourselves. 1. Crossing someone in the street for a sec or in a shop. 2. Bbq with family. Which one is more risky?

Im Spanish and over 50% of the infected ones are teenagers nowadays that have been celebrating end of school or family get togethers or adults meeting for drinks.

Busymum45 · 20/07/2020 23:37

Still.distancing with anyone, Inc family

Germolenequeen · 21/07/2020 00:10

So glad I'm in Ireland where most people are still taking Covid seriously - apart from the Government that is who are letting plane loads of Americans in 😡

Porcupineinwaiting · 21/07/2020 01:01

No, it's been done away with as far as most people are concerned. I predict it will go well, just like it has in the US.

Mnhealth202020 · 21/07/2020 01:26

That’s fair enough. I didn’t realise that the 2m rule was still in place after restrictions were eased and with masks compulsory for certain public activities etc.

I guess I was coming from the perspective of being considerate of others when keeping a distance from strangers, but not being as stringent with my close ones who are comfortable with being closer to me. You’re right that people probably do let their guard down in these circumstances.
