People making face masks to sell

I've seen loads of these pop up on Facebook, people making face masks and selling to the general public.

I hadn't thought much of it, until today I saw an ad for tweed face masks.

There's no regulation on people making and selling them, no idea of they are effective or nut, and most of all in this case, i cant imagine wanting to wear a mask made of tweed!

Aibu to think tweed face masks are madness? (Light hearted....)

They aren't meant to conform to anything. Mine is the romany flag, fashioned into a concertina mask.
Wear what you like, buy one you like, from wherever you want to.

Nicola Sturgeons mask is made by a company raising money for the homeless. Good for her.

I’ve made masks to sell for charity. Only used cotton, 2 layers with a filter pocket.

I personally think masks will help as they’ll catch more of people’s germs from coughs etc. They protect other people from those who might have Covid.

Thanks for the responses. Part of what I meant by effective, was the ability to wear it in comfort and breathe reasonably easily. I just can't imagine trying to breathe through a heavy layer of tweed, especially in hot weather.

I've heard lots of talk of just not going into shops after Friday. Shopping online.

I saw quite a few on Etsy today made from lace. Thin enough to see straight through so not a cotton one with lace covering.

Is lace pointless??
