To put car seat in car at 37w pregnant

Boomclaps · 20/07/2020 13:10

Just that really. We’ve got the infant carrier in our front room. Which is fine but I was planning on popping it in the car, triple checking the fit and yada yada yada.
Anyway, neighbours think it’s a bad idea and are making weird passing comments about it being bad luck. Is it ok to pop it in the car? Wwyd?

Mine is in the car. 30 weeks this week.

The alternative is it clutters up my hallway!

dementedpixie · 20/07/2020 13:13

Your neighbour is weird. Best to find out early whether it fits or not

Delbelleber · 20/07/2020 13:16

You need to do it for practicality.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/07/2020 13:16

It's more logical to practice now than with a newborn in the hospital carpark. Even with DD2, I got it in there a few weeks early (upon which DD1 used it for a teddy for a while!)

Metallicalover · 20/07/2020 13:17

I had my baby at 37 weeks, sister had her baby at 36 weeks.
Take no notice of your neighbour! Xx

MinesAPintOfTea · 20/07/2020 13:18

You want it installed in the car before you go into labour. Otherwise you will be trying to fit it in during labour in case the hospital are happy to send you both home from the labour ward.

20viona · 20/07/2020 13:20

Your neighbour is nosey and daft, get it in the car.

This! I did mine at around 35 weeks, which was lucky because she was born at 36 weeks in the winter.

Ignore the neighbour and get to know how to adjust and take out the car seat!

superram · 20/07/2020 13:24

I wouldn’t do it as I’m superstitious and assuming your neighbours are too. If you are happy then whack it in.

GlamourBear · 20/07/2020 13:27

We had the isofix base in for a few weeks before but kept the car seat in the house until we went to the hospital. Not for any superstitious reasons, it just happened that way as we lft the seat in the box in the spare room out of the way!

Invisimamma · 20/07/2020 13:27

If your car has even a minor bump before the baby arrives then you'll need to replace the seat.

Why not just store it next to your hospital bag and grab it on your way to hospital? If you've checked the fit already then thats fine. Or your partner can bring it in when you and baby are ready to go home.

Crumpets111 · 20/07/2020 13:28

Put it in and ignore your neighbour. I had my kids at 37+3 so you never know! Good luck and congratulations OP! Thanks

pigsDOfly · 20/07/2020 13:28

Yes, get it set up in the car as soon as possible.

What is your neighbour talking about with the bad luck rubbish?

Be a hell of a lot more unlucky to stand in the pouring rain or boiling hot sun trying to fit it in the car in the hospital car park when all you want is to take your precious new baby home.

Rosebel · 20/07/2020 13:30

We didn't until after our baby was born but he was early and as I was supposed to have a c section we knew we'd have a few days to get it fitted.
However nothing wrong with putting it in now. Why has it got anything to do with your neighbours?

MeepleMe · 20/07/2020 13:31

37 weeks is full term. If baby comes now they will not be early, they will be on time. So absolutely I would prepare the car seat. At any moment you will need to go to the hospital and I would certainly not want to be faffing with the car seat in labour. Many women go home directly from labour ward now too.

sewinginscotland · 20/07/2020 13:33

Protip - if you've bought a mirror so you can see the rear facing baby, fit that too.

We did that in the rain in the hospital car park while holding the newborn baby in the detached car seat. It was bad enough doing a mirror, I wouldn't want to have to fit the base too!

I think I fitted my car seat before 37 weeks, I can't remember exactly. I can remember driving to work with it there and it gave me some time to get used to it.

The neighbours also probably think that storing the pram at your house is bad luck too?

ChocoholicMama · 20/07/2020 13:34

Mine has been in the car since about 16 weeks when we got it out the loft. Why take up space in the house?! And your neighbours need to mind their business if they’re gossiping about you having a car seat in the car at 37 weeks! You’re classed as full term I think from 37 so it makes complete sense to have it installed and ready to go anyway!! Xxx

tealandteal · 20/07/2020 13:35

Surely you want to practice putting it in, finding out how the straps work before you are trying to do so with your newborn so you can get out of the hospital. We put ours in, took it out to run a load of stuff to the recycling centre and then debated whether to put it back in as we planned to go the next day too. Good thing we did as we were off to hospital at midnight and back home with DS the next day!

Justmuddlingalong · 20/07/2020 13:36

What the hell's it got to do with your neighbour?

DappledThings · 20/07/2020 13:37

Your neighbours are being daft. We had it fitted from about 30 weeks I think. Rather that than it taking up space and cluttering the house.

GrumpyHoonMain · 20/07/2020 13:38

Depends on the carseat obvs but DH and I bought one where we could practice putting it in on the sofa first. (Isofix should allow this). We then put it into the carseat from 39 weeks as I had a planned induction from 40 weeks. But it’s up to you - if you are by yourself and don’t have a partner then absolutely do it.

mintich · 20/07/2020 13:38

Mine was in the car at that point! What if you need to get to the hospital quickly? You cant be faffing about with the car seat!

getoffnow · 20/07/2020 13:39

I would put it in, I asked DH not to with ours as I was insanely worried something would go wrong. He waited til after DS was born and it took him 2 hours to figure it out so I had to wait 2 hours longer to leave hospital once DS was born while it was fitted

Nottherealslimshady · 20/07/2020 13:41

My sister did this, so much more convenient. Till her boyfriend crashed days before she was due, everyone was fine but the car seat was scrapped before it was every used. They had to borrow one until the insurance was sorted to buy a new one. More stress than it was worth. Check it fits and everything but take it out just in case.

2155User · 20/07/2020 13:45

Please put it in now and practice and make DH practice.

I practiced putting ours in, DH didn't.

Cue me then having the walk to the car after EMCS to show him how to take the seat off the isofix etc.
